When can she wear a bow? I am anxious to put a bow in Stormy's hair. All girls need a nice hair-do, right? When I finally am able to are band, clips or barrette style easier? How old was your baby when you were able to put in a bow? I see so many websites that show young ones with bows in their hair. How are they doing that? Are they just taped on there for show? |
I think with the websites showing really young pups with bows they could well be taped in for show. My Poppy will be 13 weeks old tomorrow and is fluffy but the hair is not long enough for a bow yet. You can get bows which are attached to clips which would be easier to put in a pup with shorter hair, I have a few but she pulls them out LOL |
Whenever the hair grows long enough to hold a bow that is attached to either a clip, barrette, or band. Keep in mind that any hair accessory is a potential choking hazard, so be sure to supervise your pup closely when she is wearing one. Never pull the hair too tight with hair accessories, and be sure to give the hair/skin plenty of rest periods. I have seen incidences here of hair clip/bands creating open sores on pups' heads because the hair was likely pulled too tight, stressing the skin. |
Farrah is 9 mos old and I've tried bands and she hates them. They come out crooked and if I use a clip she pulls it out. Too bad because I bought all these sweet bows and I'm thinking she'll never use them. : ( Good Luck. |

1 Attachment(s) As soon as her hair is long enough to catch up in a tiny grooming band, start working with her so she will get used to it. Put her up on a grooming table (or washing machine with a folded towel on top) and get her used to having her head brushed and handled. Offer lots of little treats and praise as you go. Keep the sessions short at first and gradually extend the time as she learns to sit still. After you put a little topknot in, give her a bully stick or long lasting chew to distract her. When she accepts the topknot, you can add a bow. I always recommend bows on bands for puppies. They are lighter, stay in better, and aren't a choking hazard. Make sure you use a tiny (1/4" or 5/16") lightweight grooming band. You should only have to double it. Band removal scissors are nice so you don't tug at her hair to take her topknot out. |

I'm "bow training" Lulu at the moment. She's now used to the grooming band being in but I do still have to distract her immediately after putting the grooming band in to keep her from picking at it. The two times she's had a bow in (one with grooming bands on back, the other on a barrette) she picked at it the entire time. We're still working on it & I refuse to give up! |

Hi I would like to know if any of you have experience or this is normal.. My Yorkie is 8 wk today her ears have been find until yesterday that they are dropping don't know why.. She has hair but not much. =( |
When you are ready to put a bow in after just using the bands, start with the 3/8 size. They are smaller and lighter weight so they don't notice them on their heads as much. Sometimes the 3/8 size is big enough once they are adults as well, just depends on how big your pup gets. Otherwise, gradually switch to the 5/8 size. I love putting bows in Lyrics hair. She actually got used to it pretty quickly and now wears them almost every day (with breaks over night and a good head massage) and I think she looks adorable! Plus I love shopping for them! There are some great websites out there for bows! |
