Beamer and Grooming Does anyone else's Yorkie do this? When I comb and brush Beamer, he will stand real nice while I am doing his legs, but when I am combing his body he will just lay down and close his eyes while I am grooming him! When I have finished the one side I pick him up and turn him around and he will just lay down and close his eyes again. I swear he would go to sleep while I am grooming him if I would let him. When I have almost finished I lift him up again to spritz him with the grooming spray, then I get his bow ready. As soon as he sees the bow he lays down again with his head facing me just ready for his topknot to be done. I have never had a dog do this before:animal36 |
Wow Sylvia. Beamer is really being nice to you! I have to chase Rosie half the time to get her brushed! I wish she would lay her head down for me to put a bow in. Instead she makes it very hard on me. Ha ha. Beamer is being a sweetie! ;) |
I am sure his breeder taught him to put his head down to have his bow put in. Don't forget he was almost one when I got him and his breeder shows Yorkies, and she had trained him well. I was super lucky to get Beamer. I have just never seen a dog behave this way to be groomed. Well, not quite true come to think of it. Was visiting Jean Blyth one day, she bred Lhasas - she owed Saxonsprings Hackensack had a Crufts BIS win. Anyway one of her Lhasas that Jean had retired from the ring, was put on the table for me to look at her. She knew she was being looked at and she knew exactly what to do. She was strutting her stuff like she was back in the ring. Even though she was retired as a show dog she knew exactly what to do. Beautiful dogs:) |
Bentley started laying down on his own a little while ago. I never taught him to do it but while I am brushing him he will just lay there while I am combing his head. When I do his body I am more comfortable with him standing. I've had him since he was 16 weeks...he is now 1 yr. 5 months. He stays nice for when I trim his ears with the Andis cordless trimmer. I used to have an Afghan Hound so he is much easier to groom to me!!! Lol! |

Max has always been good, but I had to work on him in my lap. I trained him wrong. Wish that I could have left him with the breeder until he was older. Now that he is maturing, he works very well standing on the counter. He is very patient. |
