Drying hair after a bath? I gave LuLu a bath tonight...the first one I've given her. She hated being dried! I used my hair dryer on the "cold air only" setting. I was wondering if a dryer made for dogs would perhaps be less stressful for her. What do you use/recommend? |
Mine hate being dried with a hair dryer too. As long as it's so warm out there I let them air dry. They do that by running around like crazy and rubbing themselves on the carpet or the grass outside (what of course undoes the previous bath). If it's cold I wrap them into a warm towel until they are almost dry and keep them in the warmest room... |
Freeway loves the dryer, but I make sure I keep it far enough away from her so she does not feel the heat. I usually have her groomed at a groomer once a month but in between I wash her every other week. She loves "our" time together. That is the best part of having only one, I can give her all my attention. I take my time and comb her out gently. She loves it. No carpet rubbing for my princess. I agree with the heated towels though. |
The heated towel sounds good. I bought her a "special" towel. :D It's made for dogs & it made out of microfiber. Next time, I'll throw it in the dryer to warm it up just before I'm through with her bath. |
I let Bailey air dry whenever possible. I lay a blanket in the family room and she scoots on that. When its cold, we sit next to a space heater for a bit then I wrap her up in a small blanket and we take a nap. :) |
I use a dog dryer for Sofia, she doesn't mind being dryad. |
i use my hair dryer on morgan always (on any setting, with the dryer constantly moving so the warm air doesn't settle on one spot). if i don't dry her, her hair will look wavy and messy and not lay right on her head. I take her in the shower with me and finish her first. i then put her on the bathroom floor with a few towels and let her roll around and get all the excess water off while i finish my shower. Then i blow dry her hair while she rolls around on a towel. eventually she stops rolling and just lays there while i finish drying her. she's loved the whole drying process since she was a baby. the bath, she's not too fond of but tolerates it without fuss. they make dog dryers shaped like people dryers without the high heat settings, and then there are the high velocity force dryers that are more powerful (what the groomer uses). |

I've always used my hairdryer to dry them. When Cash was a puppy, he would be in my room while I dry my hair every day. I would turn the nossle on him in a fun game. When the time came for his first bath, he was used to the sound and the feel of the dryer. I tried to skip the dryer on a hot day during the first few months with Cash. After his bath, I rubbed him down and combed him out, but when I put him on the ground, he got back into my lap. I put him down and he climbed back up. I turned on the dryer and he lay down. That's when I knew that Cash likes the dryer! I use it on the highest setting because I have a tiny hairdryer and the low setting makes them shiver. After a bath, I rub them down with a dry towel and then I wrap them up in that towel. Cash has learnt to stand on my dressing table, so I just brush and dry him as he tries to sleep on his feet. During this time, I also do any trimming, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning or nail clipping needed. I also use a detangling spray when I brush out the coat. I use a finishing product and then they get a special treat - I buy the nicest, smelliest, biggest treats for after grooming. I love the grooming time and I do everything myself. I am too scared a groomer will hurt my doggies :( |
My lil one likes the dryer.. my older one just doesnt like it on her face. We work it out. I dont let them scoot dry because I have only hard wood and slate floors. |

I put a towel in the bathroom sink and put Teddi in there and blow dry her. I put the blowdryer on medium heat. She sometimes falls asleep when I am drying her. I dry one side then turn her over and do the other side. She only doesn't really like her face being flow dried. I dry her until she is mostly dry and then put her down and she runs around and rubs on the ground. Then I put her back in the sink and finish drying her face and do her hair. |
