Tear free or baby shampoo? I'm looking for a tear-free doggie shampoo. Any recommendations out there, or should I just use a baby tear free shampoo; johnson & johnson comes to mind. |
Some people swear by the Johnson & Johnson's, but I prefer the products made specifically for dogs. I used Paul Mitchell's tear free on Max's head until I tested it in my eye and discovered that it stung terribly. We switched to BioGroom's Oatmeal shampoo and Silk Creme rinse conditioner. Neither sting my eyes and I love the results. BioGroom also makes "Fluffy Puppy" shampoo that many people like. These products are available online and at Petsmart. |
Tearless Shampoo |
question Wouldn't it burn a human's eye simply because they formulate it for the ph of dog hair and skin and not the ph of human hair and skin? |

Johnson's & Johnson's dries out the coat.... I prefer Biogroom Fluffy Puppy it is a soapless tearless forumula. |
I use Johnson and Johnson's just on Gracie's head and use dog shampoo and conditioner for the rest of her. |
We use Bio Groom Fluffy Puppy. It is soapless and Pistol has no problems when I use this on his face. It also rinses really well which is important. |
I use Bio Groom shampoo too. |
Thanks for all the info! I'm going to try Bio Groom if I can find it. Is this something that PetSmart or PetCo carries, or do I need to find it at one of the doggie boutiques (pricey) in my area? I have some behavioral questions to post; can anyone direct me to where I should post that? Marilyn :) |

Your behaviorial questions would be better answered in the training forum. |
My yorkie is 9. She had wiry hair for the first 18 months or so and chewed her paws and scratched alot. I started using Aveeno Daily Moisterising Body Soap, with Aveeno Tear Free Baby Wash. She quit chewing her paws within a week. I've never used anything else on her. She has a long, silky, exceptionally beautiful coat. She has never had dry skin - I bath and blo-dry her twice a week. |
I normally use a tear free baby shampoo on the girls in between baths/groomings at the groomer's. They get groomed every two weeks, but sometimes they go swimming in the pool, so they need a quick, gentle bath after that. When they get their groom, the groomers use baby shampoo just on their faces, and dog stuff on the rest of 'em;) |
Baby Shampoo is not all that mild or gentle. It is formulated to remove 'cradle cap' that developes on infants heads. I use Biogroom, all their products are tear free. They will send you samples to try from their website. Also, all their products can be diluted to 1 part product to 4 parts water... so they really last a long time... and something to factor into the price. To remove eye goop, I just premoisten the eye area with sterile saline solution.. it does a good job of softening it up so it can be combed out gently without pulling out any hair. |
I'm a new Yorkie mommy, and just gave my puppy her first bath. My question is has anyone used vets+best? I bought the hypoallergenic version and it seemed to work well her coat is really soft and shiny, but not in a oily way. How frequently do you wash your yorkies? |
