What about the PowerMax Versus Golden A5? I am torn between these 2 clippers. The powermax got my attention because it appears much lighter but I could really use some experienced feedback. Also which blades to buy for either????? |
personally i wouldn't get either of them. i hate the A5 design and i've heard some pretty bad reviews about the powermax breaking after only two months of use. These reviews were from groomers who used them everyday on multiple dogs so that's something to think about. i'm a groomer and i prefer andis clippers. they just fit better in my hand. I just bought the new Andis Excel 5 speed clippers at a grooming convention last month and i LOVE them so much. I use them all day long so it was worth the cost. Now for someone who grooms their own pets at home once every 6-8 weeks something a little simpler would suffice. The Andis Ultra Edge is my spare clipper (used to be my main before the Excel). i bought them 4 years ago to groom Morgan and then started using them daily a year ago when i became a groomer. still good. I also have the round 2 speed andis clippers that i got in grooming school. also good for basic stuff. as far as blades go, you will definitely need a 10 for sanitary area and a 30 for pads and ears. Any other blades you need will depend on the length you like to keep your yorkie in. |
I have had my Oster Powermax clippers for about 2 years now and they have worked just fine. I'm not a groomer with a large number of dogs to groom/clip but, do groom dogs here weekly. I've used them at least 2-3 times a month keeping our poodle trimmed, also trimming ears, sanitary areas and feet on the 4 yorkies here. So although the number of dogs isn't comparable to a professional groomer, it's still significant. I've had other groomers highly recommend the A5 and that is probably what I will get if/when these Powermax clippers wear out. I've used Oster products for years now and they have always been reliable, I trust them. |

Do the Andis clippers not get warm even after long usage? If not, I may just change my mind for the next set. |

I've never held or seen the powermax, just read some reviews on a grooming forum about them. the oster a5 i have held and i just don't like the style of it. i hate those metal round chucky clippers. its just not natural for me to hold. if you were closer i'd love to let you borrow my ultra edge to try. |
