top knot problems! I have successfully gotten a top knot/bow into Kylie's hair 3 times..i have had her for a week. But now she cries and yelps when I try to put a band in (I got the ouchless ones). I can get it around once but thats it and it has to go around 3 times to stay in (we still have thing hair on top). How do you guys get them to be okay with putting the band in? I dont want to hurt her and i always make sure it isnt too tight or pulling her eyes or anything. HELP PLEASE she looks so cute with a bow! |
since she's not used to wearing a top knot you can try getting soft little kid bands instead of rubber or latex looking ones which may hurt at first. |
I would get small rubber bands or baby clips that fold open and close and only put up small amounts of hair at first to get her used to having her hair up. Keep an eye on her if you the clips so she doesn't swallow them. Remeber, she may look adorable in her topknot but it's not a natural thing to them. :) Maggie is very much used to her hers now that she won't eat without her hair being up or out of the way. lol Hot Rod fights it but I think there are times he appreciates having his hair out of his eyes. You can find packs of small rubber bands and clips at the dollar store. Also you might want to try the soft terry like bands. I don't know what they are called, but they almost look like elasticized terry cloth. They come in all different colors and you get a ton of them for a $1. |
Thank you! Yeah, once they are in she doesnt touch it but she cries and moves her head around when I try to put it it...am I hurting her? I have the tiny bands from walmart (ouchless kind) and they come out fine without pulling the hair..i have to wrap the band around 3 times and thats the hard part!!!! |
The more you practice with her ,the better she will get at sitting still. When we first got Bogie he wouldn't leave his alone and he would pull Jada's out too. I just kept putting his up and leaving it for a few minutes, and continued leaving it in for longer periods. Gradually he adjusted to having his up. Now he leaves his alone and his sissy's. :) I also never leave them at home alone with clips or bows in their topknots, I am still untrusting of them getting them out and choking on them. |

do your little ones let you twist the band twice or three times? I can get her to sit but as soon as I pull the band to twist it around again she runs...she actually got smart and now buries her head under my arm!! |

Can i add some info. Hemostats. larger ones. wrap the rubber band around the area where the teeth are first then comb up her hair place it between the teeth push down on the rubber band and pull up on the hair in teeth and after practice it should be done in one quick move all at once. no more holding and twisting while holding the hair. But I agree with baby clips as a training tool. |

yes! video please i would love to see this in action! |
1 Attachment(s) I bought these bands at cvs in the childrens hair section. They are a no brakedge hair bans and they almost look plastic but they work great. They don't pull the hair like the rubber bands do and they come out easier when you take them out. Here is a picture of them |
I found it just took a lot of practice. Now Sofia will lie down and just wait for me to finish. She so funny, now she wont go without her hair up, it bothers the little princess, to have her hair in her eyes. |
here is a nice video of putting bows in with hemostats. this video shows bows on the ears but i'm sure you can adapt it to putting in a top knot. |
Thanks for posting a video. I was trying to think how am i gonna put a bow in and video it... LOL. I asked my groomer how she does bows and she showed me this trick. I have a male puppy with short hair so its super easy to do. The key with the top knot is to not use a hemostat with a locking handle that way when you let go of the hair you don't have to worry about the handles being locked in place and still hooked in the hair. (did that make sense?) |
