Eye Hair
 
I just have a silly question, my landlady told me not to have my yorkies eye hair trimmed because she said her sister's vet told her sister not to trim the hair away from their eyes because the dogs have sensitive eyes and need the hair to protect it. I'm not one to doubt a professional or anything, but this was the first time I heard that. I was wondering if that was just for maybe her specific dog had some kind of eye issue, or if others have heard this before and there is something to it? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm no vet, and I'm no groomer so I thought some of you more experienced Yorkie owners would have some inputs of value for me. Thanks!

This is an "old wife's tale". I can't imagine anything more irritating to eyes than having hair stuck into them any which way. Also just like us, if the hair covers the eyes they can't see. Either trim carefully away from the eyes or grow it out and tie it back.

If you are planning on having a topknot I wouldn't trim the hair since it is very hard to grown out and will hang in their eyes until you can pull it all back. If it is not kept out of the eyes it can cause issues but I've never heard of any thing like what your landlord told you. :confused:

Took my lil one to be trim today told them over & over not to scalp her
what part of not scalping her did they not understand she had a floppy ear but with all the hair gone it is standing up they had to shave her ears when i got her she was eat up with fleas and ear mites yes i still had to have her and it has took 5 months for it to grow back all i wanted was it cut from her eyes and no hair bow for her just as soon as i sit her down it was gone not sure how she got it out so fast :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa

If you are talking about the hair at the corner of their eyes, I do trim Zhoie's. I use the corner tip of my trimmers to keep the hair trimmed out each corner of her eyes. I tried not doing it when she was younger, but the hair would get in her eyes and they would watered so bad her entire face was soaked. I like it much better with the corners trimmed and it's drier for her too.

Great thanks for all the feedback. I'm glad to hear that I can trim/pull it back. Its still too short to pull out of his eyes (only a little over 4 months old now) but maybe I should let my LL know that her sister's vet wasn't accurate...
