Best Clippers To Use on Yorkie and Cats I have the one Yorkie so I want a good clipper to use with her but I also have 2 cats that I like to shave down once a year. Cat hair is the worst on clippers and I have tried the cheaper models and usually end up buying a new one every year! Is there such a thing as a good Clipper that I won't have to replace all the time? |
Andis clippers are nice, but you'll need to fork out $100+ & you'll also need to purchase blades separately. For cats, it's best to go against the grain to get an even look. |
I don't mind spending over 100.00 to something good. The ones I have had to keep replacing cost $40.00 anyway. What size blades should I get to go along with a good clipper? |
I agree about the andis clippers. Also when i do cat shave downs (lion cuts) I use a 10 blade in reverse. I have also used the Whal Bravura clippers (reverse 10) on cats and they left the cat so smooth. I really liked the way the cat turned out when i was finished |
Kellie, how's grooming going? Hope you like.:) 4FC leaves 3/4" of hair. I like this best for Yorkies, not too long, not too short for the summer. You can also go w/ 5FC which leaves 1/2" on the body. I prefer the 5FC for my cottony boy. I like using 7FC for cats. It leaves 1/4" of hair, but in reverse it will leave half of that, which is 1/8", what a 10 blade will leave w/the grain. I find 10 against the grain to be too short. Hope that helps. F stands for finish.PetEdge: Andis UltraEdge Clipper Blade Size 7FC Ceramic will last longer & stay cooler longer, but will need to be sharpened more often than the UltraEdge. Since, it's for home use, go w/UltraEdge blades. You don't want to get the skip tooth ones, they're more for blending & if not used correctly, it can catch the skin & cause serious damage. |

As for yorkie trims. I LOVE 7F on my morgan. it leaves her so short and peach fuzzy soft. I have her trimmed with that right now all over. Usually i leave her legs a little longer. the cotton coats are easier to get a nicer short finish. I have some yorkies that i do that get a 5F, 4F or 3F. i don't like the 3 blade because it leaves the hair uneven. the 4 is ok, and the 5 is better in my opinion. But i just like the short and even look personally. Most people like it a little longer. |

4F leaves 3/8" of hair and 5F leaves 1/4" on. They're much shorter than what you're saying . A 3 3/4FC leaves 1/2" of hair on the body. Anything longer I believe you'd have to use a guard comb. There is also a 5/8"FC blade that leaves 5/8" on. I like that one, but the blades are huuuuge! |
