This might be dumb But I don't know, is the hair on the tummy supposed to be cut/shaved? I take mine to a groomer but the belly hair is different on both of them. Maggie's belly hair is as long or longer than the hair on her sides. Buster's belly hair is cut short. Also, how is the hair on the legs supposed to be, short or long? The groomer gave Maggie "model legs" one time, the hair was very short but the rest of her hair was long. She gets Buster's legs ok but when I ask for that on Maggie I don't get the same look. I have taken pictures of what I want but I don't really get that result. Neither of them have really long hair right now, I don't want to get it cut too short but I need to get it shorter for the summer. I take them tomorrow so any suggestions will be appreciated. |
I'm not an expert on grooming, but I would guess that Baxter's tummy hair is kept short so he doesn't pee on it. I keep Thor's chest hair as short as possible for this reason. I let the hair grow on his sides to help his body look fuller, as he is a skinny little thing. |
Groomers usually shave the belly hair of the little boys up to the ribcage to keep them cleaner. With the girls, you can leave a little more hair. I find having a sanitary cut that includes the inner thighs helps since that area tends to mat. It's something you can easily do yourself to get it they way you want it. I use a little Wahl mustache clipper to do the sanitary cut. |
As a groomer I can tell you that for sanitary reasons you should always have your groomer do a sanitary trim. If you dont there can be infections mats and bad smell. :) I keep my girl very clean ( Brazilian wax) :D not really. |

Unless you're showing there's no reason for there to be any coat under there anywhere. There's a section of the dog that a good groomer should know to clear out for you. It won't change the looks of the dog b/c the coat will cover it on the outside. It will be easier to keep clean and free of tangles. Leg hair should be long if you are keeping them in coat. |
