how do you...get that so straight coat? i have tried everything and his hair just seems to curl or wave kinda, i bathe, blow dry and comb what else am i missing something???? maybe shampoo or special spray gel??? ima at a lost this is my first yorkie and dont know how to groom him i take him to the groomers but to cut his hair short. |
I flat iron their hair:) I have seen it done all the time when I go to the kennel club shows and I don't do it often.Only if they are going to have their pictures taken or going to a event:) Hope this helps! |
Yup! Uni's butt hairs are curly. We call her curly butt. the rest of her hair is straight. BTW show yorkies have their hair in wraps, which causes kinks, so they need to be flat ironed out anyway, so no one is the wiser! :) |

Roxy's hair curls around her butt too. It also flips up sometimes on her sides. We blow dry her as well. I think our prob has something to do with this darn FLA humidity though.....UGH! I don't mind I love her curly butt! |
I'm glad someone said no you shouldn't iron the coat. Even though flat ironing has it's place in the ring, untrained yorkie mom/dads should not do it. It won't stay straight unless you're going to make them stand still without laying on it or just walking. It's not for everyone. A dog can be burned in no time. Here's what you do for a straighter pet coat. Begin w/ knowing your coat type (we can help you by descriptions etc). I'll assume you don't have a true silk just b/c you are asking this very question. I may be wrong. But true silks are pretty straight without much work. Use the correct shampoo/conditioner for it properly. If you aren't positive how or what we can help w/ that. Blow dry until it is fully dry. If you have a modified coat you must work the brush while you dry. |
hellooo okay so how do i figure out what kind of coat he has? his coat now is very very soft and always falls strait at the face at the body it tens to curl when not blow dryed and get really fluffy when blow dryed and a little straiter...so what kind of products would be good for his skin and coat? also i went to the dog store and someone there told me that the whole by product ordeal was not true and that it was ok to feed them the by product dog food what is your take on that? is she lying or not? |

You have to decide what's right for your dog. There are great foods out there made from human grade ingredients. IMO it's ok to feed some with products to them. But you have to look at the other ingredients. Is it Evo or Old Roy etc. That's relative. I don't think yorkies need cranberries, apples eggs, turkey and wild oats in a maintenance diet. |

on another post i seen were they were talking about a condition made just for cotton coat i will see if i can find it again but its something else to look in to |

They "get it" by being born with it. ;) While products can help eliminate matting...it won't change a cotton coat. |
