the fur between the toes
 

i remember back when I was reading my yorkie book and it mentioned to trim the hair between the toes bc that hair grows really fast, and if they don't walk on sidewalks a lot, the hairs don't break off on their own and they needed to be trimmed. Well uni is fairly folically challenged, so when I trimmed her fur there, I thought whatever for? There's like nothing there!

Now that I have katie here, who is cottony, I know! :p She had been licking at her paw pads for a while and I thought maybe allergies? I went to check out her paws and the fur down there was soooo thick and there was some gunk stuck in the fur and it was all matted and disgusting! Both her front paws were like that. At first glance you can't see it bc it was wedged way up inside between the main pad and the finger pads (whatever they are called) I wonder how long she had that grossness in her pads, and to think she walks all over our faces at night and sleeps in our bed. yuck! We had quite an ordeal yesterday, trying to flip her on her back, which she hates, to cut out the crap stuck in there. We got it out, and while she was upside down, trimmed all the rest of the fur too. Strangely, the back pads didn't have any gunk, but i trimmed the fur anyway.

another thing, her pads are very rough. Can i use lotion or something on her pads? They feel like sandpaper.

I just asked the same doggy lotion question, except Kaji has dryness on his belly. Is it weird that I really like trimming the pad hair. I look forward to that with every haircut. I like it so much I save it for last! :D

Oh...I don't have a clue about this issue with dogs...now for myself I use Nair..:D:p:D and scrap my heels on the cement..:eek:

What about the palms of your hands? ;)

Oh I shave if there is still some hair after I used the Nair on my toes...:rolleyes:

Priscilla, next time, put the cone on her for grooming or anything like that. ;)

sandpaper works too if there is snow on the ground. :D

geez, why didn't I think of that! I'll keep that in mind for next time! Well the cone is at home, and we did it at work yesterday. I just saw that gunk and wanted to get it out asap! She is a biter, and when she gets upset she will snap. At least i think I am her favorite, so when she tried to bite me it was more of a fake bite. But she has bitten bf and the staff at the vet hospital. :(

I have a biter(s) so I use the very small muzzle..their bites hurt when I am doing feet...I have to or I am jerking way to much.

Sandpaper is a great idea for my heels in the winter time...:rolleyes:

I also have one of those grooming pillows that also might work...

when the vet techs cut her nails they put on the tiniest muzzle i have ever seen. I actually thought it was quite funny, but decided I should probably keep the laughter to myself.

I was thinking of gluing sandpaper to the dash of my car, and then uni is scratching at the dash, she can file her own nails. :p

They probably are using a cat muzzle..that is what I have...

I would have to put the sandpaper on my legs for it to work for Kaji. He's never reached for the dash of the car. I just got a better idea, I won't shave! Boyfriend says my legs are worse than sandpaper so I'd also be saving money too!!

Oh heck...tried that...all it managed to do is mat my leggs...:rolleyes:
