Oster Clipper Questions (Blades) I am tired of struggling with cheap clippers and I am doing what I should have done along time ago and buy some decent clippers! I am doing research and it seems Oster seem to be a clipper of choice. My question is...what are the different blades used for? I've seen them sold with a number 5, 10 and 50? What are the different blades used for and what will I need? Thanks in advanced! I've been googling but can't seem to find my answer :) |
I hope you get a response soon. I have also been having this same struggle. I can't find info on what each blade should be used for. :) |

I totally agree with you Breny, it is confusing. I just received my Oster A5, one speed clippers the other day. It came with a #10 blade which is good for anal area, between pads, ears & underbelly I'm told. I also ordered the 7F blade which clips to 1/8" on the back, which is how I groom Buddy leaving his legs longer. It seems the lower the # the shorter the cut. They sent me a sheet which explains all their blades. Yipeeeee finally something I can understand. I will be glad to fax it over to you if you have a fax or I can copy it and mail it to you. It's a lifesaver. |

I'll bring it in tomorrow and scout around in the offices here and see who just may have a scanner attached to their computer. Send me your e-mail address via pm if you like. If I find a scanner in the bldg I'll get it off to you. Mine is still sitting in the box. |
I think this link is to an Oster blade use chart....hope it helps. http://www.osterpro.com/includes/Cry...BladeChart.pdf |
I use the 10 blade to do the sanitary trim and Vpad. 5 blade leaves 1/2" on body 7 = 1/4" The higher the number is the shorter the hair. Always use blade with the growth. You can also use a blade with skip tooth for blending. I can give you more blade sizes if you need them. |
Thank you!!! :) Quote:

Breny I use moustache trimmer to trim in between their paw pads. I use the moustache trimmer for their ears How-ever my breeder uses the #15 for paw pads and the 7FC for ears. Then she finishes the crisp ear edge with scissors. I use the 7FC for sanitary trim, and finish up with blunt nosed scissors the come in very close to the anus. I use 7FC over spine and somewhat down the sides of the back (I leave a skirt on the body). Same blade for neck trimming. I scissor face. Now that Razzle is not showing if you do get an underarm mat, or sometimes over the elbows you can buy a soft slicker cat brush, it really is quite quick and painless but you will lose hair with the slicker. |
