? about Blades vs. comb attachments I have watched two seperate grooming videos. One suggests different blades and the other suggest the attachments to use over the blade. I'm a little confused on which we should try. Any suggestions? What do you use? (For those that are trying to learn and need a good training video - try www.poshpawsalon.com - very informative!) Thanks for ANY advice!! If Cissy looks in the mirror and RUNS, I'll know we need more training :D |
I have a grooming DVD and have been grooming mine for over a year and from what I know, I use a #10 blade for close cutting of tummy's, fanny's and privates. Then I switch to the #40 to trim the v point of their ears and then you keep the #40 blade on when you put on the comb attachments to give them a schnauzer or puppy cut. Hope it helps some. |
Thanks Thank you Nanci - It does get confusing with different comb attachments - different brand combs suggest different blade sizes - I'm afraid I'm going wind up with more things than I'll ever use, not to mention the waste of money. I'll do the #40 with the attachments and see how it goes. Cissy is still scared at the groomer and I was hoping she would calm some if I try this myself - I just hate seeing her so freaked when I leave her with the groomer. She's with me 24/7 so I'm "hoping" she will trust me enough to let me try the grooming. Thank you so much for your reply!! Keep your fingers crossed :D |
Only use the #40 with plastic comb attachments. If you have metal use a #15. I don't like comb attachments with Yorkies with silky hair. Comb attachments tend to leave the silky hair looking choppy. If you don't mind, then they are a good way to keep your Yorkie's hair longer, but not too long :) |
Ok - so I should NOT use the combs? She is kept in the puppy coat with the teddy bear face. (Her groomer said she has the thickest hair she has ever seen on a Yorkie) So, do I just go with the blade #4 (for the body) and NO attachments? I am SO lost, wasting money and haven't even started to cut hair! Thank you soooo much for the help! This is the reason I wouldn't cut my sons' hair, I couldn't take them out in public.... :D Cissy sure puts me through my paces! |
I like the #4F on the Yorkies with the cotton or wooly coat. Make sure it has an 'F' after the blade number or you'll end up with a Skip Tooth Blade. Skip tooth can easily cut a dog if you're not experienced. Plus, the F is the finish blade. |
THANK YOU Kelly!! We plan on giving it our first try this weekend! |
