groomer? How old should your baby be before she goes to the groomer? Gabby doesn't mind her bath but refuses to let me brush her. I have tried so many things with her, but nothing seems to work. Now she has little knots that I can't get out. |
My groomer would not accept clients under 6 months. I don't know if all groomers have an age requirements or not. How old is your Gabby? She is adorable.:) |

Either comb them or they may have to be cut out. When you groom her with a comb or brush, give her lots of praise and treats - that may make it more manageable for you to brush/comb her. Good luck! |
When either of my two have lots of knots, I will heavily apply conditioner in the bath and try to work the brush throuh thier hair before rinsing it out. I also use a leave-in detangling spray when drying. It is a time consuming process sometimes, but daily brushing will also help. :) |

the problem is the fact that fights me when I try to comb her. She bites and squirms, even with my husband holding her, she still manages to bite. Those little teeth can bite off a finger if you're not careful!!! I have tried treats, letting her eat her brush, play with it, everything I can think of. HELP!! |
my groomer took puppies before 6 months old, she did her when no one else was in the shop and I stayed with her so she was never in a crate. |

Copied from a previous post of mine: The sooner the better!!! I know a lot of us like to grow our puppy's hair out, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't go to the groomer. You can bring your pup in for a tiny trim up around the eyes and sanitary area. Or even for a bath! This will help them get used to going to the groomer and will let you get a feel for what groomer you like. The later you wait, the less likely your pup will accept the grooming process. This can make him/her difficult to groom and it will be difficult for him/her because she's stressed :( I say as long as they have 2 rounds of vaccines with Bordatella included, then bring em on in!! Be sure your groomer understands that it is your pups first cut. When I have first timers I spend a lot of extra time on them, taking it slow and talking to the pup so they feel comfy. Good luck! |
I groom and don't accept any pup until they've had their full compliment of vaccinations. But, as a breeder/exhibitor, I begin teaching them the grooming process at home right after their first shot. They have a full groom weekly. Although I do begin getting them use to their nails clipped, lil butts trimmed & ears and paw pads trimmed from the time they are week old. Even though I offer free grooming for the rest of my pups life. When my pups are ready to go home I request that my new families come with plenty of time. We go through the whole bathing, drying, ear & pad trimming, everthing to keep their dogs neat and clean and how to handle them through the process. |
