Is a 2 speed clipper really necessary? What size blade should I use for a puppy cut? I'll be cutting my 2 dogs and want to get a clipper that is quiet and doesn't get hot. It looks like the Andis has an inexpensive 1 speed model with #10 blade and attachable clipper combs for "non-professional use" and I wonder if it has enough power. What blade size would I use for a puppy cut? I tried people clippers on my dog this weekend....it is a good thing he can't see himself in the mirror. |
I have an Andis clipper with the attachable blades. It is single speed and the steel teeth are adjustable. I use the 1 inch blade for a puppy cut and mine also includes a blending blade....which is very nice and avoids a choppy appearance. Keep in mind...the way you hold it in your hand affects the cut and the pressure you use does also. So if you set it down and pick it up...or switch hands...you aren't necessarily holding it identically as you did before It takes some practice before you get it down pat. |
blending blades??? I know what the combs look like and the regular blades look like, but I have no clue what a blending blade is. Please teach me. Also, to get the one inch cut are you using a comb on the #10 blade because the suppliers told me that the longest cut you can get from a blade is 1/2"-from the #3 3/4 blade. The part that worries me the most is around the eyes, do you use something smaller for that? I really appreciate you help. I have always cut my kids and husband's hair, but they stay still! |
Blades for pet grooming are the opposite lengths of blades for humans. Where a #10 for humans is long, the #10 is very short. Depending on how long you want them...I use #4F on cotton/wool type hair. Make sure it has an 'F' after the number or you get a Skip Tooth blade. Those blades easily cut dogs with an untrained hand. For Yorkies with the silky hair I go shorter with a #7F. It keeps it short and not choppy. |
