Arrrgh! Matting Tummy Hair - do you shave? I am growing Remy's hair out and generally meeting with success. He has a silky coat so even if I miss a day we don't have knots or mats. However.... my little neck of the woods has been hit by lots of cold and snow in the last month (more coming this weekend) and Remy has been wearing his sweater almost every day. As a result, his tummy and armpits are getting matted. Badly. Even with nightly combing. There are a few I can't get out (mr. impatience...) I've searched here and some people comment on having these areas shaved as they are not noticeable with a full coat (???) and daily grooming is easier (???) Rem's heading to the groomer tomorrow. Should I have her shave his tummy and arm pits? I really like his little "chest" hair that pokes about above the collar of his clothes, and this area is not getting matted. So I think she should only shave from behind his front paws on his actual tummy:confused::confused: |
Just to follow up on my post above, Hannah used her clippers to trim down the hair in his armpits. She also trimmed the hair in the center of his belly, leaving the outer hair long. I think it will be MUCH easier for me, and result in fewer mats from his sweater, harness, snow, etc! |
Remy has beautiful hair; glad to hear that the shaved and trimmed "undercarriage" ;) will alleviate the matting problem. I have read old posts here on YT in which many people indicated that they did the same with their dogs. Winter is tough on the long-coated little ones, isn't it? |

When Lola came home from the vet after her spay with a shaved belly I tought Oh Shucks : ( Well...it turned out to be the greatest thing, I loved the peach fuzz and you could not tell her tummy was shaved at all. Made our lives much easier and that's what we do now....we shave that little pink belly : ) You will love the peach fuzz! |
