Grooming/Brushing I'm not able to get the brush anywhere near Coco without him turning around and attacking it. How do I go about getting Coco brushed? I also try to wash his face and he hates it. Help! |

Same here with Prince Henry! I make sure I am gentle with him but he hates that brush lol... What to do? |
Treats, treats and more treats! I would introduce the brush/comb slowly and give him a small piece of a treat each time you are able to get close to him with the brush/comb. Try just making the motion of brushing with the back of the brush at first, then thru the tines of the brush. Soon, hopefully, he won't even think about the brush. At 2 years old, Hot Rod doesn't care to be brushed too much either but knows that he gets a treat after. I use either a baby wipe or baby washcloth to wash their little faces. Good luck. :) |
Just like Hot Rods mom, use plenty of treats. At first I used my girl's baby changing table and spread out treats on the surface. I put Hedley on and whilst he was eating the treats I started brushing and talking to him in a nice soft voice. Once he got used to it I do a few brush strokes and then treat. He tries to get up on the changing table himself now just for the treats. Its not easy, but you just have to keep at it and do a little every day. Hedley is by no means perfect, but improving. |
At first it was a struggle to corral Zeke and brush/comb him then, he figured it out that it was not that bad at all. Now I just rattle the grooming box and Zeke races to get groomed. He looks good and he knows it too. Never had problem with Zack and now Zoey is not a problem either. The only real big problem is clipping Zeke's nails. It has taken a healthy vet tech to hold him and the vet to quickly clip the nails although Zeke is getting better with me touching his little hoofs. |
