Suzi needs to be clipped ! scared
 

I had been in the Hospital for over 5 weeks.. I had family taking care of my 2 babies and son. My 18yr old niece took it upon herself to bathe my Yorkie, Suzi, while I was ill . Problem now is that Suzi is full of Matts :mad: I know my niece did not know, and did not ask permission to do this. NOW I need to clip Suzi.
I have clipped my Shih Tzu pup before and she turned out nice .However, with Suzi , and her hair being so much more different , I am scared I am going to hurt her.
I have a grooming table now , and clippers. Can anybody tell me, what size of blade I ought to use to take out her matts? Or is it just a matter of figuringt out?
My niece did not even know how to take her topknot out, so now Suzi has the top of her hair sticking straight up , matted . I am mad about all of this because her hair is med. long, now it is ruined.
With some guidance , I believe I can do this myself. And suggestions would be wonderful .

Well I just finished clipping Suzi... It was not so difficult . However, she did have so many Matts underneath her beautiful long hair . Her lower back portion was the worst . However, I got all the Matts out .SHe had to be clipped short, but great thing about hair is that it always grows back : )
I am happy now that she has no more knots and matts, I am sure she feels a lot better too.

I can imagine it was very hard to cut her hair, but you did the right thing for her!

You would want to use a 7 blade for the matts. You can also get de matting conditioner and soak the matts and try to work them out....without seeing them it is hard for me to say. i am a breeder and own a dog grooming salon and wish i was close to help ya. feel free to email or send message if ya need more help.

I wish I did not have to clip her so short, but their was no choice. I have heard that matts hurt on a dog.
Suzi is so tiny now. i tend to forget how small she is without all that hair. I also have a shih tzu pup . SO grooming is a must for me to learn how to do.
My brother told me I did a good job. Suzi is a very good girl when grooming her. It is the pup that gives me trouble. She is very food motivated , so I use this as I groom her.
The grooming place that I have taken Suzi would have charged me at least $60 on Suzi.
I am planning on buying more grooming products from petsedge. Such as a groomer blow dryer, and special condioning shampoos and detanglers. My plan is to purchase those plastic storage drawers , at a walmart, and use that for grooming supplies, and place it under the grooming table. i'll have my own little "shop" for my 2 girls.
I believe that is the best thing to do, because of my high maintence dogs, plus I want to get better at my grooming skills, the only ay to do that is practice. :)

What number clipper blade did you use please? Do you use the same all over? Im not sure if to buy some clippers and have a go myself or take him to the groomers.

a 7' blade is what is reccomended to take matts out , I still separate the matt and then use the clippers .
You just get a feel for how to use clippers. I used different sizes of blades , on both my dogs. When the hair become shorter or is matted I change the size.
I never use the shortest blade becuse it is too close to the skin. Having a grooming table is especially helpful when grooming and clipping. I am no expert and trying to learn as I go .
So far , I have used the clippers on my shih tzu puppy , and now My yorkie . I am proud of myself, be prepared to take the time to do it . I also like to give them a bath afterwards.

Do they tolerate it OK? I can imagine it being a nightmare as I have to keep giving treats to Hedley just to get him brushed. Your dogs must be really well behaved.

Ya me too! I have to be quick when I brush Pixie I can't imagine taking the clippers to her. I bring her to the groomers and stay with her just to get her toe nails cut and ears trimmed! lol
