I need to thank someone I don't remember who it was but someone suggested using corn starch to get out matts. Daisy doesn't matt but my mini schnauzer is another story. I do all her grooming and today was bath and hair cut day. I did her pre-clip then moved on to brushing her out for her bath. I had already had to razor out two big matts on one leg and she wasn't happy with me. Then I remembered someone suggesting rubbing corn starch into the matts. I thought yea right but it's worth a try. I must say this is what should be called nature's miracle. I worked the dry starch into the hair on her legs and using my slicker brush with no pressure at all the matts brush right out. It must be magic. The comb slid through like butter. So from the bottom of my heart and Missy Ann's THANK YOU, whoever you are. |
LOL....I don't know if it was me or not, but I have recommended using cornstarch several times on here. I'm sure others have recommended it also. It is AMAZINGLY simple, inexpensive and has saved me cutting out a mat, on more than one occasion. I didn't come up with the idea either though, a good friend that used to post here sometimes told me about cornstarch. Thrilled that it worked so well for you! |
I owe a thank-you as well. Buster gets terrible mats. I bought some corn starch on New Year's Day and used it that day. I could not believe how easily the mats came out. I thought for sure it would not work when I first read about it and I can't remember where on YT I read it but, Thanks!!! |
Huh....this is really good to know :) Never heard this before but I'll be stopping by the grocery store on my way home. Harley doesn't get badly matted because I brush her everyday, but every once in awhile, after playing hard, she gets them and sometimes when I'm trying to pick them out the hair just breaks off and I end up pulling that mat out all together. Thanks for the great advice!! I love YT :) |
Cool. I hadn't heard that either. Good to know. :) |
