Clarifying Shampoo Question at what point do you use? My understanding in reading the label is that this shampoo removes product residue. Do you use this as a first shampoo - then follow up with a regular shampoo? I'm thinking with all the oil that we put in the hair that this product might be good to use. I ordered a vellus sample kit and it should come with a bottle of this stuff in it. With all the different shampoos and conditioners I have for 3 dogs one cat - my laundry room is starting to look like shampoo/conditioner store aisle.;) |
Where did you order the Vellus sample? I would think using the clarifying shampoo alone will take care of all the residue & no other shampooing is needed. Hehee, I can open up a pet store Lol. |
If you go to their website www.vellus.com you will see the sampler kit offered for sale. Reasonably priced too. I'm still waiting to get it - but with all the XMAS shipping and I live in Canada probably going to be another week or two before I receive it. |
Thanks:D |
You use a clarifying shampoo without re-washing again with another product. And you can also use neutrogena clarifying shampoo too. |

I currently use PetSilk products, but I am always on the hunt for alternatives. The Chris Christensen "Day to Day" shampoo and conditioner was great for Maximo's texture and shine, but the scent did not agree with me or my pup. What else would you recommend trying? I would love to raid your laundry room collection! ;) |

Yes I have tried Vellus but only once so far. I like the conditioner-I'm going to try the shampoo with less dilution and see. I thought the shampoo a little "thin" - I loved the satin cream and the static stablizier |I will be ordering those in a larger size. I also will try the Vellus Finish-for show days. I'll probably get a small bottle of the shampoo because they only give you 2 ounces. I've tried Biogroom Oatmeal Shampoo and their silk conditioner I like both of these products pretty well. i;VE Yet to try the Lazer lites shampoo on Razzle but I love it for my dense coated black russian. It really deep cleans well - however I was not impressed with it for our other BRT with a straight and not very plush coat. In both cases it washed out well. This one doesn't have an overpowering smell as far as my nose knows. lol This week I wash Razzle first with the Lazer then move onto Vellus then to the Biogroom oatmeal and see what I like here. I have a pic in sir razzle dazzle and gang loaded up which shows his coat after biogroom products + drape the leave in conditioner. It was very shiney in the picture - but for show days no drape as the coat felt a little oily. which is fine when you are going to wrap it up. #1 All systems conditioning shampoo overall so far for Razzle is the one I like the most for a single shampoo. Then I love plush puppy shampoo as well - I absolutedly love the smell of plush puppy. But razzle recently has been showing a bit of red skin around his eyebrows and I've switched to the Biogroom there on his face. Plush puppy is very expensive as you use full strength or at least the results I like is with full strength. Swishy coat for Plush puppy is great for show days - however I understand they are not carrying the product anymore. I'm going to check here in Canada with the only supplier I know to see if indeed that is the case. I'll let you know when I try out more new products :-) So far my fav conditioner is the |Biogroom Silk. |
I use the Vellus products on my show coats. I wash once a month with the Clarifying shampoo followed by the regular shampoo and then the conditioner. Just use the regular Vellus shampoo & conditioner the rest of the time. I love the Vellus products. The cream is great for the topknot, it keeps it from getting knots under the bands. I think it also helps grow hair.:) |

Thanks Jan = do you use the shampoo at the suggested dilution rate for silk coats? 1oz to 10oz water? I did that but I found that it didn't lather up well at all -now that was the week I had tried out a rather oily product on Razz's coat be4 wrapping it up. I felt it didn't cut through the greasy coat very well at all! Oh yes that shampoo was after using the clarifying shampoo at their most concentrated ratio. I adore the satin cream - do you use it all over the coat? or just on topknot? I really like to try out different products and see what will make my Razzle just Dazzle. lol |
I use it a little stronger than suggested. I have a bather so I put a heaping capful in the sink then let the bather mix it for me. I use the cream only in the topknot but have used it to wrap coats. I no longer wrap so now just in the topknot. Love Razzle Dazzle!:) |
LOL....Not that it sounds like you need more hair products but have you ever tried Iv San Bernard products? Their PEK conditioner is absolutely amazing! I'm trying to get ISB rep to offer samples for sale here...she told me this morning after they return from Montreal she'll get to work on some. |

The PEK makes his hair like liquid silk. A friend that shows yorkies loves it, except that it does make their coats so silky, she sometimes has to use extra hairspray, to keep the topknot from slipping. |
