Thank you for all the tips. I have a wide toothed comb that I am using to softly comb his back when I can get him to lay in the recliner with me. I want to get him used to being combed/brushed. His hair is really short right now as you can see in his pics. Since he's a rescue, I realize it will take a lot of time for him to trust me. He hates me even getting close to his face so I try to take one swipe (and I don't mean that in a derogatory way) on each cheek so he will get used to it. Do I need the spray on leave-in conditioner while his hair is so short? | Yes, even when the hair is short. A small facial comb is best around the face, that way you won't risk scratching his eyes, if he should move. Don't use a pin brush, breaks the coat. A nice natural bristle brush.....only use a slicker brush if you need to work out a mat. Be patient and gentle...he'll get to love it after awhile. Oh when the coat is wet, don't use a comb....it stretches the hair shaft, causing it to break. |
