can you use human hair gel? i recently purchased petsilk's top knot gel and i notice it's more like pomade than gel. it doesn't really hold my baby's hair up. i'm trying to grow out his hair and it's in that awkward stage right now where there are a lot of stray hairs getting in his eyes. i was wodering if it's ok to use human hair gel, or if using it will result in hair loss? |
Really? You didn't like the Petsilk Topknot gel? I tried human gel and didn't like it at all. Petsilk does a great job on my 2. It lasts a long time and it doesn't flake like human gel. But, yes, you can use a tad of human gel. |
I'm also surprised you didn't like it, but it's just for the stray hairs that are too short to go in the topknot. I would not use human hair products, they are not tested for safety. If you have some of the product on the hair, and the hair gets into the eyes it could cause a problem. I used human hair spray on Joey's hair, before I heard about Petsilk, and I would just apply it with a small brush, so none would get in his eyes, but it didn't hold very well, and his hair tumbled down. Joey had a eye ulceration a couple of weeks after I was using the spray, and I think it may have had something to do with the irritation from the hair spray. The vet didn't know what caused it, but said that they can scratch their cornea on the carpet, and I thought maybe the hairspray was causing the irritation, and Joey was trying to relieve the itching by rubbing his head on the carpet. So I stopped using human hair products, no more eye problems, by the way, a eye ulceration can be very serious, we were lucky to catch in early. |
Maybe I'm not putting enough on. His hair is too short to put in a bow so I've been using this product. I just find that everytime he plays, his hair falls back down again. Nancy-if the product from his hair were to accidently get in his eyes, would it harm him? I know you said human hair gel could, but I'm assuming petsilk would be ok right? |

How you apply, is dipping the end of a rat-tail comb and gently smoothing it on. As far as putting his hair into a bow....trying taking less of the hair, just a small amount above the eyes......start small and as his hair grows you'll be able to add more and more. |

I purchase mine from a show vendor in dallas.....Woodpeckers.....I'll see if I can find the website. I usually purchase when I'm at a show. Might want to try Amazon.com....they usually have the best prices and at times can get free shipping. |
