Yorkie Puppy to Adult Coat So I took my Bella to the groomer's yesterday because her matts were getting a little out of control and the groomer told me that her matts were so severe that she had to shave Bella. I would have added a picture except my pictures exceed the maximum KB to post. But basically she's shaved right down. I'm worried how this will affect her coat...she's 6 months and she still has her puppy coat (although I don't know how you can tell if your puppy is growing their adult coat) and I've heard that shaving them is a no-no when they still have their puppy coat - Is this a myth? Should I be worried? |
Her coat will be fine. However, as it grows you will need to brush her daily to keep the mats out or keep her shaved. |
I agree, her coat will be fine. I, too, had to cut Rily's puppy coat off because of matts at 4.5 months. I like him short, so I will probably keep it that way, but his coat is beautiful now....so soft and silky to the touch...I love his light, silky head. I believe their coat is in their genes and has nothing to do with cutting it too soon, JMO. :) |
I kept my little girl in a puppy cut until she was about a year old, then started growing it out. It really didn't come into its own untill she was about 2 1/2 to three years old. It was still changing. If you brush daily, you shouldn't have a problem :) I only spend about 5-10 minutes a day on each of mine in long coats, if I were to skip a few days, that time is increases :) on at least one of them |
