Hi! Welcome to YorkieTalk! Please use a "puppy" shampoo that is tear-free. Biogroom makes a good one. Also, please make sure that your baby is kept warm afterwards. I like to throw a fresh towel in the dryer to warm it up. I bathe my babies weekly but they are older. Your baby is very young. She really should stay with her mom and littermates until she's 12 weeks old or around 2 pounds. It would really be beneficial to your baby if the breeder keeps her longer. I can't imagine why the breeder is letting these pups go so young. Please get some Nutrical and have it on hand at all times. Have you had Yorkies before? Toy breeds are different than larger breeds - especially Yorkies. When they're young/or very small they tend to use a lot of energy and they need to be monitored - just like an infant. They can go into a hypoglycemic episode very easily - which can cause death. Best Wishes.... |
I second the Biogroom puppy shampoo. I used it for Sophie. |

and no Ive always had rottwielers this is my first toy. What do you mean excess? so should I just bathe her quickly? I heard not to bathe toys till they get like 8 or 9 weeks? Quote:
Where can I buy it? at like petco? or should I go to a private holistic pet supply place or just a specialty pet supply? idk. |

I'm not sure where to buy it in your area but here's a link showing you what it looks like. You can google "Biogroom" and find it at other places. Some pet grooming places may carry it. PetEdge: Bio-Groom Fluffy Puppy Conditioning Shampoo 12 oz You'll use this while they're a puppy and any tearless shampoo for their faces as they get older. Because their coats change you'll probably use several different shampoos to try to match it up with your pup/adult dog's coat. Meaning if she ends up with a soft coat - you'll use product X. If she has a silky coat - you'll use product Y (etc.) |

But just so anyone else who reads this knows (since I've received a few rude PM's from stuck up yorkie acult activists. about this controversial (OH NO! *gasp*) situation) I've found another breeder on this site with a CKC girl that I may get instead of this one since alot of you see many red flags with this breeder. I only use "Yorkie Splash" Shampoo and "Yorkie Shine" Conditioner that is made specifically for a Yorkshire Terrier's coat by a breeder who shows Yorkies :)It's made with all natural, ingredients and has a ph of over 9. It smells wonderful, and leaves Sophie's hair feeling silky soft and looking great. You can find it and read more about it on the "Yorkies of Walnut Hills" web site. |
Okay thanks! I'll look into the Yorkie Splash. and just to specify (I dont know how to edit it for some reason its not allowing me to edit the first page) The yorkie I'm interested in weighed more then my aunts WHEN she was 6 weeks. My aunts is like idk barely a pound and a half or something and she's like two years old. And I will be getting her if I do get this dog at 8 weeks... just to clear that up. but thanks for all the shampoo suggestions I really dont want her to get a rash or something as I've heard they can get from certain shampoo's. |
You can email biogroom & ask for samples. |
Oh I can? Sweet! I will do that now. Also my friend just bought me Lulu Pink 'Get Groomed' Shampoo, Leave in Conditioner and Freshen Up Spritz. Does anyone know if that's a good shampoo? It isnt tearless like CJ125 was saying would be good. But it doesnt say there is an age limit on it like my flea shampoo does. Anyways if anyone can let me know it would be greatly appreciated. |
I got my biogroom shampoo at petsmart.:) |
I like Minksheen and you can get it online from member AMD here on YT I think the site is westbrookdog.com. I think there are other reps but I get mine there because that was what was reccomended to me. It is great cause it has a natural insect repelant, conditioner etc. Plus you can buy sample size to try it first. They also sell bully sticks at a great price......now rereading this it sounds like I am her personal advertiser but actually I do not "know" her just love the products and how fast I get things in the mail. |
I hear petsilk is good. In fact, I just placed an order on overstock.com. I order the moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. it comes with two bottles of shampoo and 1 bottle of conditioner all for $23.49. I also ordered the finishing collection, which comes with the topknot gel, cologne and finishing spray for $25.49. All together I spent about $48, which i think is a steal for all those products. |
Someone told me that "Dr. Bonner" is a good shampoo for a dog and he uses it on his dogs. You get it at a healthfood store. Anyone use this brand~? |
Age appropriate is always important. Make sure youre using puppy shampoo. My favorite is TropiClean. Just because its green, good for your puppy (It has never caused Roxy any problems while other shampoos did), and they have so many different things for different kind of dogs, hair, skin types, ages, so on. Don't bathe your puppy too often, if you do, it can cause them a lot more problems if you dont have the right shampoo, and it wasnt instructed by your Vet. I used to give Roxy a bath twice a week, but it was making her get dry skin on her head everywhere. So I started having to buy shampoo made with Oatmeal extract, which I got from TropiClean. Now that she is older and doesnt have that problem anymore, I give her a bath once every 2 weeks since I brush her twice a day... and I use the Berry TropiClean because it is for fresh scent. Keeps her smelling good. Then, for the other lady who said she had a problem with her puppy smelling bad... I use the TropiClean Berry scented, and I use these things called "Cologne Drops"... They dont cost a lot, and all you need is just one little dab. (I got mine at Burtons Pets, and it was only about 4 dollars). It lasts a long time, and I got mine in Baby Powder scented. I put a little dab at the base of her neck, and she smells good for over a week! |
my Smokey needs to be bathed too, he smells like dog. ROTFL. i just got him, so i'm going to go pick up more stuff for him this weekend. my dad got the essentials (food tag, harness, leash etc.) |
We use Nature's Miracle Plum Silky, I forgot the name of the conditioner, and spray Froo Froo Juice for smell. I bathe usually once a week, my gals are wild things and get into the craziest stuff! |
For puppies, I also love Bio-Groom Fluffy Puppy For adult yorkies I use Bio-Groom and Chris Christensen . |

Dr. Bronner is a castile soap. From a person point of view, I use it. I wouldn't recommend it for hair! I made that mistake on mine once when I was out of shampoo one day. They claim it works well as a shampoo, but my hair came out really dry which says a lot since I have oily hair and it did not look good nor clean. Human use on skin, Dr. Bronner's soaps are quite nice (they leave the skin with an entirely different feeling then "conventional" soaps) and target carries a few pieces of the line. Wouldn't recommend you use it on your dog though. |

HAHA! i used that on my puppy noir, lets just say it made his coat look even more dull than when i got him. the conditioner did nothing. smelled okay. but really it doesnt do anything. earthbath "tea tree oil& aloe vera" is good. i noticed a diffrence from the first wash. try that. not too expencive. but i am planning on trying the yorkie splash shampoo soon. |
Thanks for all the advice, I've been hearing alot about biogroom so I ordered the fluffy puppy one. And whoahITZaurora hahaha....i know what you mean now. When I brought Sophie home we gave her a bath....SHE NEEDED ONE. and yeah it made her coat look great for about...a couple minutes lol. It didnt do to much its just standard and nothing special. the detangaler helped but other than that I know what you mean by dull. and thanks for the advice about the earthbath I wanna give that a try aswell. |
