very thin and Dull hair Hello everyone!:) I have been reading about the yorkie coat and I didnt realize there was a silky coat and a cotton coat. I think my fifi must have a cottony coat she is a Morkie and I have always had such trouble with here hair, it tangles and mats easily and is very wispy thin. I have been trying to grow it out probably not full length but half way, it finally reached that point but along her back it just looks terrible...:( Does anyone have any suggestions for some products that i can use that will help her dry hair w/o making it too heavy (since it is very thin the slightest bit of oil makes it look dirty):confused: |
I think so much of hair quality is genetics, good breeders choose dogs based on hair quality. If it were easy to suppliment the diet with food or use a product that made bad hair look good, breeders would not need to look at hair quality. If the diet is really poor supplementation can help, and there are certain products that can make hair a little more manageable, but overall, there's not much you can do. You try to find products that don't damage hair, so it doesn't break off too early. I think you might be happier if you just accepted Fifi's hair, and find a great cut. Joey has great silky thick hair, but after playing with his "nephew", his hair started breaking and didn't reach the floor any longer, I thought it was more important for him to have play time with other dogs, than to have a great coat, and his groomer cut the body hair short and left the legs long. Lots of yorkies with perfect hair sport short coats. I just love the new cut, and he looks great all the time. |
After posting that i found a nice cut from a picture on here and gave fifi a new cut. I think I have found the happy medium between a long coat and no coat. Her cut now accentuates the kind of wave that her hair naturally has rather than making it just look like a mess. But i still would like to know of a good conditioner for overall dryness and to add shine. What do you use? |
Hi, I am a total newbie but so obsessed with hair. When I went to DFW to pick up my Biewer at the airport....I met a breeder who said she would give me her best "hair tip". She said you can buy a product at Petsmart called "show stopper" and just follow the directions. I haven't tried it yet but I just can't wait to see what it does that is so spectacular. |

I'm glad I found this thread. Sophie has been "scratching" a lot lately, so I'm wondering if the PetSilk products I've been using hasn't been drying out her skin? I just sent Bio-Groom a request for sample products. Her hair seems very thin lately too. I'll give this a try!! Thanks! |
