Help! my baby has dredlocks!!! I tried a new shampoo and his hair is a mess. to say the least. I bathed him on friday this is tuesday and he has so many mats I am sick. he has a appt with the groomer and I am embarrased to take him it is like he has a second set of ears!!!! Any suggestions???? I have been working slowly at it all day but no luck |
How often do you groom him? If you have time you should be doing it everyday. I do Libbies once every two days or so. Some people may say you can't do this but when I had this problem with Libbie it worked for me best. After I gave her a bath I started to comb or use my fingers to untangle her hair. It took a while but it worked. . You can also try leave-in conditioner. If its really bad it might be best if the groomer handles it and most likely they'll shave him down a bit. |

I always comb Josh's hair before washing him. I also detangle Josh's hair before blow-drying his hair. If Josh gets knots in his hair, I work with a layer at a time combing a few inches from the ends until I am able to reach the roots. Then I comb that layer again to make sure all the knots are gone. Using detangling spray can help getting knots out of dog's hair. :) |

I bursh him everyday!! when he is on my lap at least 2- 3 times a day. I was so proud of him not having mats!!! I always used pantiene shampoo and conditioner but I bought some stuff at petsmart. we don't have a fancy pet store where we live and thought I was doing something rignt. Da&^ I am Pissed It took me a YEAR a WHOLE YEAR to grow his hair out and now I have to have it chopped up. I wanted him to have a medium long coat so I started grooming myself. He gets bathed weekly and washed with wipes or a warm wet washcloth after each potty. Well back to the drawing board I guess. Word of Advice- don't use Lorenzo Borghese Italian Pet Spa Made in Italy shampoo. I smells heavenly but... well you know the rest |

Don't give up, use a detangler and be patient, start at the ends and work to the root, use the tip of the comb... I like Mane and Tail "Shine-On" it isn't a detangler exactly, but it is slippy, without being too wet! Good luck.. |
Don't give up. I have a little one that tangles sooooo bad. Just work each tangle with a comb, I use the small feet/face comb by Chris Christensen. I kind of work the tangle to get it as far away from the skin as possible then hold the hair tight at the root and then work the tangle better so that she doesn't hurt so much. I put her in Almond oil this last time when I took the tangles out, and to me it helped. It's going to take a while and you may shed some tears but with patience it can be done. Myra |
Thanks Thanks for all the replys. I have been working all day and I think I have most of them "licked" LOL Poor Baby!!! he has chosen to lay on daddy's lap this afternoon... I will bathe him tonight with my original regimine and see how we fair once we are clear of tangles. I know he has had some breakage due to this but with some leave in conditioner and extra care I can help him along. their hair is not reallly much different than our hair. I am a hairdresser so I have acess to some good supplies. you are all the best!!! |
