OMG! Glue trap stuck in FUR! HELP ME! Okay, so .. my mom has a couple of mousey critters who've found their way to her living room. She puts a couple of glue traps behind a door where she thinks they've been hiding out. The next morning, my Callie, being the little mouse hunter wannabe that she is, decides to pull the glue trap from UNDER the door with a mouse on it and gets it entangled in her fur! We got the glue trap and partially chewed mouse off of Callie, but the glue has remained. I don't know if you've ever seen these traps before, but they are STICKY! We tried a bath, but that just didn't work. We need something that will dissolve the glue - we don't want to shave off her beautiful coat. Actually, don't even think the clippers will cut through the glue mats. Help me! My dad (typical male with his manly workshop items) suggests using mineral spirits, but something just tells me that's not very safe for a doggie skin. Thoughts?? Thanks! |
I've heard liquid fabric softener works! Then rinse, rinse, rinse. It is a great solution for getting walpaper off of walls as it slicks off the glue! |
One of mine got fly tape stuck on his coat, same kind of glue on fly tape I think as on mouse trap tape. i worked some peanut butter into the glue/coat and it dissolved it really well. The wash out the peanut butter. |
You might try Goo Be Gone. It removes the glue that labels leave on merchandise and works great. When Buddy gets sap, yuk, stuck on his feet while walking I have to just cut it off:eek: But the Goo BE Gone should work on the coat with no problem. However bathe immediately so the little mouse hunter dosen't try eating it. You can buy this in any hardware store or bed/bath. I am sure other stores also carry it. |
Mom always used rubbung alcohol to get pine sap out of our hair, when we were kids. |
My daughter got one stuck to her hand and we used peanut butter as well. But than again it was skin that it was stuck to and not hair. I hope you find something that works for you. |

Everyone, thank you for the suggestions! I will be getting to work soon on Callie! First I will try the peanut butter - we buy that stuff in bulk. We have some Goo Gone, but I am a little apprehensive of putting on the dog. if the PB doesn't do the trick, then we will try the GG. I will report to you my findings!! Thanks again!! |
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! PB works!! 1 Attachment(s) This is amazing! Last night, we slathered our Callie in PB, let it sit for a few minutes and we brushed her hair right out. We couldn't believe our eyes. My husband took lots of pictures of the process, and just wanted to show you how pitiful she looked! Thanks for the great suggestions - now everyone will know what to use if your little baby gets something really sticky. I also am posting a picture of the traps my mother set out ... they're really good! They also catch small, unsuspecting canines! http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/IMG_7188.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/IMG_7203.jpg |
Oh my gosh! :lol tears, she looks like Callie's having a mud treatment. She actually looks like she might be enjoying it. lol Glad it worked and all is well again. :) |
In the one picture, she looks like she is also having a little snack. |
:lol tears :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears I am so very sorry for laughing -- but your story brought back memories of Killer the Cat VS the Sticky Glue Trap & Mouse. Hands down the SGT and Mouse won. :D. I wish I had known about the peanut butter remedy at the time as it was I used scissors and they took care of the sticky stuff :D :D I am so glad to hear that the peanut butter rescued little Callie and she didn't have to endure the GG or even worse an embarrassing hair cut. In time you will find the humor in the situation and will have some good laughs..... |

:yelrotflm Poor Callie! I am so happy for both of you the PB worked and she didn't need a crew cut! Amazing, I certainly will keep that in mind for the sap Bud get's on his feet from time to time.\ P.S. Did the spa treatment make her coat soft and shinny? |
Callie...you look like a peanut butter cookie.....sweet! |
Now that it's over, I can laugh. I'm so glad it turned out alright for you. I had this happen once, too. I had no idea what to do and wound up cutting off huge chunks of Becca's beautiful hair. I have never heard of using PB for something like this. I'm sure going to remember it! ;) Please give that baby some extra lovins from me, she sure deserves it! |
