Question about a Yorkies beard I have been letting Niyah's hair grow out since I got her the end of July and I wanted to know if her beard will grow very long almost to the floor like I see with those beautiful show dogs. Niyah is not a show dog but I love the long coat look and keeping her hair nice is not a hard job seeing that she is only 3 pounds. Thanks, |
Since I don't show them !!! I keep it short , hard to keep it clean if it's too long. bark@ulater!!! manina, miley:aimeeyork, max:aimeeyork |
Thanks but I want to grow mine long. I don't have a problem keeping it clean. It's not too hard to keep a 3 pound dog clean. So I want to know if all Yorkies beards grow very long like some of the show dogs do. |
All 3 of mine are in full coat and each ones beards are different lengths. My youngest actually has the longest beard. I think it is hard to get to the ground unless you wrap it but I don't know for sure. |

You need to get her use to the dryer.... |

Although, it really depends on the coat and the amount of time you want to spend on a pets coat. However, Radar is the exception to the rule for the most part....he runs in and out the doggie door, plays in the grass, sleeps on the bed, sleeps wherever he wants (with my pet yorkies) but he is in coat oil, wraps and bathed once a week and wraps re-done when needed whether it be every day or once a week just depends on his activity level and the weather outside. He has coat to the floor and ear hair is almost to the ground and mustache getting there. After one more year (hopefully) of showing he'll be cut down as it's "A LOT" of work. All my pets are in puppy cuts except the show dogs. But it can be done :) Donna |

my magic has always been in full coat. hair goes to the floor and once in awhile i let the groomer trim it to floor length otherwise it would be much longer than the floor. but the hair on his face only is half that long and never been trimmed in seven years. it just does not grow as much. he is brushed and combed every day and i always use blow dryer and brush at same time to keep from getting waves.i use a professional dryer which is very soft noise wise.he does what he wants as far as going on grass, where he sleeps etc. he is not a show dog but we could not love him anymore and i am very proud of his looks |

I like the long coat. That's why. If I didn't, I wouldn't have asked about it. I am not asking to create a coat exactly as the showers do. I just want a long coat on her even if I don't wrap it or use a dryer on it. I will use conditioner and give her a bath frequently to keep it nice looking, That is all I am after. |

I don't see any reason either why any show Yorkie cannot go outside a be a dog. As you said, he is a dog first and you can have a nice coat either way. Inside or out. You just have to work hard for it. As I have said, Niyah is not a show dog and never will be. She is not standard Only 3 pounds and she is spayed and most of all, I was not looking for a show dog when I bought her. She is exactly as I wanted. A dog with a top of the line personatlity, not a barker and a loves everyone. |

I have 2 yorkies, one pet girl,Beatrice...who has a full coat and has never been wrapped,I don't blowdry or flatiron her either...just for special occasions..and special photos. I really believe it depends on the individual dogs hair. Some are easier to maintain than others. My boy,Sebastien is 9 1/2 months old now and his coat is growing quite fast...especially the facial furnishings(beard) I have not wrapped him yet and I don't blowdry him either...however...his hair tangles much easier than Beatrice's,so I use a different oil mixture on him. Don't give up on the long hair,I love it .....and they both love being groomed :) Here is a pic of Beatrice,my girl in her full coat |
1 Attachment(s) My male is allowed to do "everything" he wishes he plays with other dogs, on grass, sand, in forest you name it. BUT it IS a lot of work to keep his coat in condition. I don't oil him, but he is in wraps. The day I stop wrapping him I'll cut him down, because full beard isn't so handy. It looks great in the showring, just fabulous, but it gets in the way when he eats, chews his toys/bones, plays etc. |
