Age can take puppy to groomer?? What age can I safely take Miley to the groomer? Do you think it'd be safe to take after she gets her next set of shots. She has only had one set because of her size the breeder doesn't give them til they are 7 weeks sometimes 8 when they are that little..So she got hers when she was almost 8 weeks..so it delays her getting her next set. So anyone got any advice here? Thanks so much.. |
Definitely not until she's completed her shots. How old is she now? For the most part puppies don't need to go to a groomer's until perhaps 6 months. You can do "maintenance" at home....keep her ears shaved, her paw pads, and bottom. |
I found a groomer in my area that's a really tiny shop and she literally has like 1 dog at a time except maybe Saturdays. Jackson got groomed there at about 4 1/2 months old. She never even asked for shot records or anything. But most places will require shots, and bordatella. |

As a groomer i can tell you it is easier if you take her in as soon as she has completed her puppy shots. The younger they are the easier it is for everyone. The first haircut usualy is around 4 months (16 weeks), we suually just bath, dry, nails, sani and light trim. If there are any issues we give Mom homeowrk (and yes we can always tell if you have worked with your little munchkin). The older the dog usually the more difficult of a time we have... |

I would definitely wait until she has had all her shots. Grooming puppies is so easy so you can do much of it yourself. Get a small pair of scissor and you can use them to trim the hair on her ears, the pads of her feet and the hair around her anus. I like to use a small pin brush to brush them but I also like using a flea comb after I have them brushed out because that helps remove any puppy fuzz they might be loosing and also if they happen to pick up a flea you will get them off too. Also a pin brush will not always get the little mats that are close to the skin so by using the flea comb you will be able to catch any mats before they become a serious problem. Pay close attention to the hair on the elbows, belly and knees because there is where they usually start matting first. Also be sure to cut the toenails. For small pups I just use large people toenail clippers and just cut the little point on the end of the toenail where it starts to turn down. |

I'm a groomer and I would wait until she has all her shots because you never know how the place is you dont know if they are using proper disinfectant against parvo. Just make sure you start young that way she gets familiar with the groomer and all that involves like clipper and dryer. It's best for puppy and groomer :D |
Herbie is 4 months old, he is wild and wiggly when I try to brush him with or without the blow dryer.how is a groomer going to do it? |
