Hy:) I am new...so this is my first question to you.
I make topknots for shows my self...looks grate, but I don`t understand - why cant I get it to stand in one place. I do it the same way other groomers do, but my is not standing! so in the show I have to redo it every hour:(

I'm no expert on top knots..there are many show people on here that will probably have a better answer.
But...I've watched/read up on the proper way to do topknots. One method is to pull all the hair up (casual topknot) and another method is the two pullbacks joined together (show topknot). Which one are you currently using?

I usually make it like this - make 2 parts - first I make a knot to the ear side, the other part I backcomb ant then tie to the back part. end it with hair spray and put in the bow.
After an hour = she shakes and the bow skews and the hair get messed up....
what should I do to get the bow stand in its place and the hair no to mes up?

Firt of all it's in how you tease. Part the hair you want to gather into the hair (less makes a better poof, but the amount of hair taken is dependent on the size of the head). Once parted, take a small come and tease close to the scalp all around the part line. This will keep your part true. With that done start at the front, at the base of the nose...tease tightly, then a section at a time, tease. Then take a teasing brush and tease all through the hair, making sure every inch of hair is teased. Spray, then with a soft small brush, begin smoothing very ligtly, all around the outside only. Once you have smoothed, gather hair together, and place your band about an 1/2 inch from the scalp. At the back of the gathered pony tail pull a small strand of hair, this will get your poof, then pull a small of hair from the center. This will secure your work You can accentuate your poof by inserting a rat tail comb and gently pulling. Then spray like heck. Smooth out the pony tail, add your bow, then another band to secure that bow in place. Now tease the tail spray and smooth over your finger to form the fan. Fold it over add another band. Spread your fan and add Stick up for stiffness and to settle stray hairs. Is this long, yes. and there are other ways of doing it. A bit more complicated...but, as time goes on you'll be able to do this with ease and can tackle the other methods. The key is practice, practice, practice.

I know that's Arlene Marquez's video. Pretty good but the with a bubble like that, when the dog walks the topknot bounces....doesn't make for a pretty picture. The bouncing bubble somehow doesn't let you focus on the complete dog.

Maybe try to center the robber band slightly towards the back of the head, so that the bubble is puffy on the front but, flatter on the back. Then it shouldn't bounce. Maybe this photos will help

Your topknot is anchored down, the one in Arlene's video isn't. You do your topknot pretty much like I do. With the exception the back ponytail I pull up and attach to the front one then do the fold over. Did I notice you did a section with a part in the middle of the front and back sections. Excellent, I just learned this, with the new DQ here in the states, it's an great way to hide thumb prints that haven't quite grown out.....

:eek: I didn't like the video.. it did certainly not look comfortable for the dog with all that back-combing and securing and pulling...
Not to mention what that kind of grooming does to the hair! Gels and sprays and back-combing, it must destroy and break off their hair!

No such thing, show breeders do this all the time. I can show you pictures of my dogs that have topknots 10 - 12 inches long....you saw the pictures of the last poster, extremely healthy hair. Show dogs are table trained from a very young age to relax and enjoy this procedure. The exhibitor knows how to handle the dog and products so the dog has no discomfort or adverse reactions from products used. Eyes and nose are covered prior to spraying and if by chance product accidently gets in the eye we carry eye meds to immediately stop discomfort. Show dogs coats are extremely well cared for with the best products used externally and internally to promote healthy coat and skin.

Mardelin - hove can you tell by a photo that the coat is extremely healthy??:):confused:
I would like to know if my girls coat is healthy:Dreally:) (although I think it is..but an experts opinion would help verify it;))

Did you look at the pictures above. The head piece absolutely glows and shines, there isn't a broken hair anywhere. The length itself tells the coat is healthy.

I still wouldn't want to have that done to my dogs hair.. his face furnishings are to the ground and I am quite fond of them :D

This is not my dog, but I made this top knot yesterday. No sprays, gels and onlu 0,5% of the back combing seen on the video.
So , quite natural, and not that bad, I think.

yes... I did look:) and looks amazing!!! if its the shine and length...then wear good to :p
