Omg, how can anyone let their puppy get so matted? At grooming school today, I did this yorkie, whom was super matted from head to toe. This Yorkie actually belonged to a worker's cousin. I would be ashamed if I were them. His nails were so long that a few curled and were slanted to the side. I believe due to the nails, his paws were so tender to the touch. Every time I got near it he would try to bite me. Original request was to leave 1/4" hair on body, but it was way too matted, so I had to go down even shorter. I'm pretty sure he is feeling much better after his haircut. I really wanted to shave him down til' he looked like a chihuahua, but we gave him a schnauzer face. Almost couldn't due to the mats, but my instructor help clipped most of them out. I will post pictures up soon. How can anyone who has family/relative in grooming industry let their dog get to that point? I would be ashamed if I were her.:confused::confused: |
Wow that sounds like it had to be a nightmare to work through all of the mats. Was the instructor just as astonished as you when he/she saw that poor dog? |

I would be ashamed to bring my dog in looking like that. Do you do the grooming at a discounted price? I am in school for dental hygiene and we have to do cleanings at the school, and we offer it at a discount. The employee might have told that cousin to come in and get her dog groomed. If you give a discount that might have been the only way that person would have got the dog taken care of. |

They probably waited til the last minute to bring the poor dog in. Some people should do their research before they get a pet...Yorkies need brushing everyday. Wow, you were lucky to have worked on that dog...you learned how to cut off matts & deal w/a difficult pet that probably never got groomed before. Unfortunately for the Yorkie, she'll probably end up a mess again in a few months.:( |

Where in SGV is your grooming salon located? I would love to get my Maddie groomed from someone from YT!!!. I have only had Maddie for 2 months and i havent gotten her groomed yet. I have a groomer that grooms my pom and shes great but it would be great if someone that LOVES yorkies could groom her!!! Maddie is 2 years old. When I got her, the breeder had cut her hair short. So I am DESPERATELY and ANXIOUSLY waiting for her hair to grow. I really love long hair on yorkies. Well its been 2 months and her hair is at that awkward stage where it is still too short for a topknot and too long to just leave it alone (hair gets in her face). Also, im trying to grow out the hair on the bridge of her nose and right now its just sticking out everywhere so its covering her eyes LOL!!! It would be great to see if theres anything you can do in the meanwhile until her grows!!! Look forward to hearing from you ;) |

The school I'm going to is actually in Tujunga. I would love to groom your Yorkie for free, that's if she lets me hahah. I honestly wouldn't mind grooming fellow YTer's Yorkies for free at home. It would give me more practice.... I have one more week to go and I think I can get you a free groom if you let me bring her in. All I need to do is tell them I'm bringing a dog in and they don't charge. Please, let me know... Wednesday and Thursday are the slow days... that's when they usually let us bring in our own pets. Just keep in mind that there's a possibility the outcome of the haircut might not be exactly how you want it... keep in mind I'm still a student and the haircut is free... but I have a good eye on what looks cute on dogs. Do you know how she would do in a professional grooming salon? A lot of time it freaks them out if they're a first timer. |
Well, today someone brought their Yorkie in. Poor thing... she was super matted.. worse than the one I worked on yesterday. The owner said that she went out of town (supposedly) and left her Yorkie girl with her family that had outside dogs... no way in hell a dog can get that matted for a short period of time... I know for sure that was several months of neglect. The thing that piss me off is that she brought her Yorkie in a plastic IKEA bag!!:mad::mad: She said she showered and didn't want to get dirty. WTH???? I don't care how dirty my dogs are, I would still hold them, not bring them in a plastic bag. She could have atleast wrapped a blanket around her or something if she didn't want to get dirty. She even had her in the plastic bag on the ride there.... My instructor is a major animal lover.. she was furious and was like "Is that a dog???", "why is it in a bag???". I think the owner got offended.. If I were her, I would be ashamed of myself. Some people should not have pets. sorry... just needed to vent. |

do you want to drop her off at my school early in the morning or drop her off the night before at my house? if your pom needs grooming, let me know too. do you know how they are when it comes to professional grooming? |
What in the heck was that woman thinking? Why would you put a living animal in a plastic bag. From how you describe her she seem like one of those women that just don’t have the time to be bothered with the proper care of her dog. She has no business owning an animal if she is not willing to take care of it. |
