Clippers, clipper blades and comb attachments???? There is a lot of information here about clippers and I have read and researched quite a bit. However, I am still confused. I bought an Andis clipper for about $50, I know, not a lot of money. The clipper does not have any additional blades, only one, but it does have the comb attachments. I am not sure what "blade size" it is. I have not used it yet and may take it back. I have read a lot about the blades and what sizes you should use but have not read anything about the comb attachments...... So I am confused......it does not appear that the blades are easily exchanged (at least on this one), so how does that work? If you have exchangeable blades do you not use comb attachments with the various blade sizes? And, does anyone use the comb attachments? Thanks so much for any information and help. |

Thank you so much for the replies, I really appreciate them. The clipper I bought was an Andis Deluxe Pet Clipper kit for $50.00. It does not have additional clipper blades, only one and I cannot see anywhere what "size" it is. It does have 8 comb attachments. The clipper blade screws on, so that was my question about being easily exchanged. Hmmmm, if you are grooming it doesn't look like it would be that easy to change the blades out. I do have a small Oster trimmer that I use for the ears and pads so I would not need this clipper for that. I haven't used it yet....may take it back and get something better suited....with a DVD!!!! |
Well mine came with a DVD...but at best it's described as just okay...it's not specific to yorkies. Actually my video included NO yorkies in it at all. It just provided various demonstrations of different uses of the clipper and combs. I could however cut a pom pom tail on a poodle now if I wanted. There are lots of grooming videos on youtube. My clipper blade is adjustable...when adjusted it varies the length and width between blades...and then you add the combs. If you aren't planning on trimming all way down...the oster is probably all you need. |

On that model, it is those attachable combs that will give you the different lengths, there are no different size blades for that model. You can use just the blade itself to shave ears if you wanted to but the small Oster trimmer you already have would do that part anyway. I don't know how well they work, from people I know that have tried them, not that great. I have the professional models with the different blades etc as I do mobile dog grooming for a business. |

PetEdge: Andis AG Single-Speed Clipper Anyone can order from Petedge, they are a good company to deal with. I have done mail order with them for over 10 years. This clipper has detachable blades that snap on and off the clipper. however, I do not like the Andis blades very much, I prefer the Osters. The clipper comes with a 10 blade which is ok but I buy the Oster for other sizes. To cut down a Yorkie coat, I usually use a 7F in summer,on the body doing a schnauzer type of clip. Wiinter I will use a 4F or 5F depending on the coat. Ears I use a #40. Yesterday, I bought their two speed it has a little more power as I do have some client dogs, mixed breeds of various sorts, that have a much heavier coat and the single speed has a little trouble getting through that coat, I have to keep reclipping. The single speed Andis is comfortable to use, light, and for most will do a good job. I used to use the Oster Golden but they are too heavy big and clumsy in comparison. Grooming several dogs a day like I do or any professional groomer, clippers are important. |

Also, I wanted to let you know, my Petsmart price matched my clippers. I got a pair of Oster clippers, the turbo 2 speed one that was originally $200+ (I think they were $250.00)for the price in the Petedge catalog!! I think I paid like $139 or $149. They also price matched some of the other stuff like Stypic power and Nutrical. It is worth a try, they can only say No. I also got a pack of andis combs (price matched) but wound up buying the brand specific combs package instead. |
