How do I stop Louis from peeing on himself?
 
I'm sorry, I don't know how else to word it. :D LOL. I want to grow Louis hair out, but lately whenever he pees it gets all over his hair, and he smells like urine. How can I cut the hair under his belly, while keeping the rest of his hair long? I am afraid it will look funny.

I shave my males tummies up to the bottom of their ribcage, you can't even tell from the front only when they want a belly rub. It's very clean and no pee smell or wet tummies.

What kind of clippers do you use? Do you shave the hair completely off?

Joey's breeder is a show breeder and she said the secret show breeders use is to have a "pee string". You keep the hair on the penis about 1-1 ½ inches long, you can make it's thin though, like an artists paintbrush. This string directs the flow of the urine away from the body, and you won't have any splatters. This link gives more details, read "Trimming Urination Area of a Dog." I do, I use the tiny Wahl dog clippers.

Aha! Ben had this naturally and they cut it too short at the groomers. I think this is why I am now noticing he is getting too messy underneath. I have taken the baby wipes to him when he comes in and that helps immensely. But now that you have pointed out the "pee string" I will make sure the groomer knows to let that little strand of hair stay a bit longer.

That explains the problem. Louis had his "pee string" shaved off, and now that it's starting to grow back it is splashing all over his belly. See how much you learn from YT!:D

I have the same thing going on with Harley! Thanks Nancy!! Since I do my own grooming now I will leave the hair longer!
