panting after anal glands being done, is this common? The groomer brought Tucker back today and said that he was panting some because his anal glands were packed full. Ive just never heard this before so I wanted to see if it was common. Thanks |
I'm a groomer and we sometimes express anal glands and I have never seen it to cause panting. Is your pup still panting. |
Mine has had her anal glands expressed a lot and it has never caused panting. They have to really be careful as it's easy to hurt them when expressing if they don't know what they're doing. I like my vet to do my dogs |

Thanks for the reponses and no he quite panting a few minutes after he was home. I took him outside to potty as soon as he got home, he peed and pooed with no problems then when he came in he drank and seemed fine after that. I thought that it was odd cause she has expressed before with out any problems. Im wondering is he wasnt left in the car for a few minutes or just got overheated from the excitement of being groomed?? She only lives up the road from me and she comes and gets my dogs and brings them home. She is very sweet, always does a good job and my dogs always are excited when she comes and when the get home but if I found out he was panting because of other reasons then his anal glands being expressed Im gonna be super mad.. |
He was probably panting because he was anxious being at the groomers. Many yorkies pant when they are nervous or stressed. If your dog doesn't have issues emptying his glands when he eliminates...there is no need for anyone to manually express them. |
