how do you get your furbaby to like being bathed? milu does ok when i wash her body, but when i wash her head she just FREAKS OUT!!!! (especially the rinsing part) her heart goes crazy like she is going to have a heart attack! i feel so bad for her. how do you get your fur-babies to tolerate being bathed? how do you wash their head and face? thanks!!! :D |
omg..i so know how you feel!! i too would like to hear how other yorkies react to bath time. Bailey, like Milu is ok until we get to the head. she tries to run in circles, like she is trying to get away from the water!! she is funny to watch, but i feel sorry for her. surely there is an easier way to do things!!! |
I've been having the exact same problem. He does a bit better if I use a washcloth on his head and face but he doesn't get as clean so even after a bath his head hair looks a bit stringy. |
Every now & then I use a wash cloth for their faces & rinse with it as well. I throw my girls in the shower with me & they are pretty used to with & without, but it's easier with the cloth. :aimeeyork I found this idea at.... Yorkie Grooming there is more tips here http://www.yorkie.org/dogs/grooming_yorkies.html |
Nolee has never given me any problems bathing him. I don't let water fill in the tub. I run the water and use a plastic glass to get him completely wet. I shampoo and then rinse with the plastic glass. The water is draining the entire time. I never plug up the tub. He is scared of water. Maybe this may help. Good luck! |
I just took our babies baths yesterday...they did great! I always use the sink and a cup. I rinse then wash/rinse their bodies first, then I wash their head avoiding their eyes...when I rinse I use the nozzle on low and put it by the back of their head, I slowly move forward and rinse toward the front of their head but shield their eyes and push the water back toward the back of their head (wipe the water back so it doesn't get in their eyes)... Then usually all you have left is their muzzle which you can do the same. I took my time and made sure not to get water in their eyes or ears and they seem to relax. :) |
Neither of mine like their face or head washed either. I do use a cloth and they don't mind that as much. I have to bathe in the tub and I let the water run continuously and rinse with a cup. I think the running water scares them the most but the only sink I have large enough is the kitchen sink and that is not going to happen. No matter how much I love my babies their butts are not going there. lol I wish I had a utility sink, that would be perfect. |
I don't think any of the little dogs like a bath...The only dog I had, that liked a bath, was a 180 lb. mastiff, who got her bath in the back-yard w/a water hose...She was happy to be cooled off...Apple doesn't like her bath, but I just tell her she was born into regular baths, because she's a yorkie lol...I tell her the same thing, every morning, when I brush her hair...But what I do is wash the face/head last, and have three tall glasses of warm water ready to go...It only takes about 15 seconds to pour them over her head for a rinse, and it's all done, and then the warm towel and lots of kisses...I don't like going to work, but I have to, and Apple doesn't like having a bath, but she has to...I wish Apple could go to work for me, and I'd stay home and take TWO baths everyday, and pour water over my head lolol.... Maggie :) & Apple :aimeeyork |
I use mustard/ketchup squirt bottles filled with water to rinse Lady's face. You can direct the stream and it doesn't freak them out the way a sprayer does. |
Pann hates getting a bath I used to bathe him in the bathroom sink but he started begging to get in the tub so now I turn the shower on and put him in there. He still isn't happy but he tolerates it much more, idk whats better about the tub but that does seem to make a difference, lol crazy boy:p. |
I take them in the shower with me. I put the least amount of soap I can on there heads, and I try to hold there head back while I cover there eyes, and rinse. Hope this helps. |
I just gave the girls a bath Saturday...They HATE it! All they have to do is see me getting the shampoo and towels and they are gone! LOL...I put a little water in the sink to soften their nails for easier cutting. I do use the hose to wet them down and rinse them off. I hold their ears down so water doesn't get in them. Although they aren't crazy for bath time I just keep telling them how good they are and that they will get a treat after bath time. |
ok I put Pann in the shower with me and he now begs me to take a bath...everyday! i recommend trying this way. |
I fill up the sink w/about 4 inches of warm water and wash Kimbo's body, feet, neck, head and face. We rinse w/the sprayer. Head last because he doesn't like it. I hold him up with one hand so he can't run anywhere. (He's a tiny little thing so it's easy). Then it's time for conditioner. Since he has a modified coat right now, his head is silky and doesn't need conditioner above the neck so he's ok with that part. |
