What's the difference between 7fc,7 or 7f blade? After looking up blades my old groomer said not to use anything lower than a #7 on Buddy's back. Looking to replace my clipper's, want a clipper that has a narrow head, I am looking at the #7 blade however there are 3:confused: 7FC, 7F, and a 7. One even has a sawtooth edging. Does it matter which one I purchase? They all trim the body it states. I wanted a 1/4 " shave but this gives me 1/8". I'm still alittle confused. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Right now I am using Andis clippers on the highest setting with a 1/4" comb attachment for his look which I love. Don't want to mess this up. Thanks, |
I was told that the F stands for Finishing, other places say that it means Full (as in not a skip tooth). FC is full cut or finishing cut. Basically the same thing, however sometimes you will notice that the mm listed on the blade is different. For example i have a Buttercut 5F that is 6mm and an Andis 5FC that is 6.3mm. I prefer the 5F because it gives a nicer, smoother cut. The skip tooth blades are used for bulk trimming, and they are easier to cut a dog with if you don't know what you are doing. On yorkies that are getting short puppy coats i use either a 5F or a 7F all over. These are especially nice on cotton coats. I usually use a 7F on Morgan all over except her head, which i use thinning shears to give her a round head. The 7F cuts hair to 1/8 of an inche and the 5F does 1/4 of an inch. |

Interesting you mentioned thinnking shears, I wanted to know how these were used also. Buddy has such thick hair around his neck the clipper's wont' go threw it so I scissor it with not too much problem. Are the thinning shears something that would work for me there? |

It does but I need to use the scissors for make it a clean cut. Even holding the skin taunt it has problems getting threw the hair. I want to purchase a Oster Turbo A5, single speed. I don't need the two speeds. He's not afraid of sound and is easy to groom except for contant sitting when I need to do his butt. He is butt senstivie:D |

For him i'd use a 15. also the plastic combs kinda suck LOL which clipper do you have? maybe i can help with what position to put the blade in is the problem that the clippers don't go threw his hair or that it glides over it because of the location that its in and you don't get a nice cut? Is the hair matted because of a collar? if its matted or tangled do you brush it out first? Do you clip him before or after the bath? |

I clip him before he is bathed. He get's bathed every other week, faithfully and just never get's dirty or smells. He always smells do darn nice. I like bathing him after because any loose hair goes down the drain. LOL I think you have done a great job explaining this to me. I will order the #7 blade and possibly #5 as well. Morgan always looks so nicely groomed. Buddy only wears a harness while walking otherwise he's free of anything in the house. Thanks once again for all your expertise:) |
Since your clipping him before the bath make sure you clean and oil your clipper blades after each use. Your clipping "dirty" hair so it can be harder to clip and not give clean lines, plus it can dull your blade. Have you tried running the clippers over the area again after the bath? wonder if that might help. i can't think of any other reasons why the blade wouldn't go through his hair there. have fun grooming :) |

if your getting a single speed i would make sure its the faster speed, not the slower speed. You want the 4400 speed, and not the 2700 speed. Also Osters kinda suck |
What do you think of Wahl for a full-size clipper? I finally got the courage to use my new mini Peanut and it's wonderful! And, wonder of wonders, Zoey is fine with it. She actually dozed off when I was doing her pads...for the very FIRST time. Wow. And to think I was totally terrified to use it.... :rolleyes: |
Great thread! Okay, so to piggyback onto your questions, what clipper would you rec? I keep Bernie's hair a little like Buddy's. I've been thinking about buying a REAL clipper (I won't tell you what I've been using), but I have no idea where to begin. |
I use an Andis, and so does everyone at the shop i go to school at. i have these clippers. PetEdge: Andis UltraEdge 2-Speed Clipper and PetEdge: Andis AGC 2-Speed Clipper The first clipper is faster and is what i use as my main clipper. The second clipper is the one i got in my tool kit for school. both are good clippers. I have used some whal clippers. these ones PetEdge: Wahl KM2 Professional 2-Speed Clipper i used at a few animal hospitals. They were finicky after a lot of use. But they also weren't taken care of as best as they should have and they were dropped some times so that may be why. This clipper PetEdge: Wahl Bravura Cord/Cordless Clipper Kit is awesome on cats. I use it to do lion cuts (and i'll have 3 to do tomorrow...yay...lol) And these are the various combs i use PetEdge: Wahl Stainless Steel Attachment Guide Combs Set metal ones are best. the plastic ones can pop off and then you have a nice chunk missing from the coat you were clipping. |
