Our groomer just fired us!! HELP!! We have a 2.9 lb yorkie. He is 5 months old. He has been going to the groomers for awhile now at his vets. I thought it would be a safe place to go since it was located in his vets office on certain days of the week. Well, she told us today that he tries to bite her and she had to have two other people hold him to try to get him trimmed and combed. I have the same problem at home he HATES to be brushed! I have tried spray in conditioner etc...Does anyone have any advise. I have to find someone new to groom him now. She even went as far to say that he has a disipline problem! I need some good advise to try to keep his tangles to a minimum. |
training for grooming Try only grooming on a table. Start with just being on the table and getting treats for standing calmly. Progress to light combing and treats for good behavior. As he gets calmer, have noises near him on table like a blow dryer, clippers, ect. Verbal corrections for undesirable behavior only. Use lots of praise but do not reward any snapping, growling or so on. Do not take him off the table while he is doing any of this sort of thing. Make sure you start with really brief periods of time and always end on success ruth |
Smokey never bit anyone, but he was horrible at being brushed for a long time. He'd run away as soon as he saw we had the brush. His poor hair matted sooooo bad cause his puppy hair was just awful. I finally broke down and cut his hair really short and underneath all that puppy hair was beautiful, non-tangely, silky hair and he loves being brushed now and will lay down for me to brush him. Maybe your baby just has matted puppy hair and it hurts and he doesn't know any better than to bite because it hurts. |
Everyone here will probably freak...but you can muzzle him. You can easily make your own, then when he finds out it's not so awful and you're not going to hurt him...you can quit using it. I did this with my Charlie, years ago. He was horrified about me clipping his nails, but he got over it after a while. He never bit me, but he threatened to. Above all, I wanted to avoid that ever happening. They need to know that you're the boss and they can't ever win one of these arguments, IMO. |
Ihave 3lb one and he terrible the rest of mine are so good on the table. I was a groomer and I end up give my spankey a knock out pill. But he is one great stud.He is my wild child. |
