How long does it take your groomer?
 

I was just wondering how long it takes your groomer (or yourself) to bath, blow, and trim your dogs? My baby is just under 4lbs and the groomer I've taken her to has had her for there for 5hrs. Today I was so fed up I just went and got her. They brought her to me STILL WET after over 5 hours!!
It doesn't make sense to me that it takes someone 5 hours to groom that small of a dog. Is this groomer crazy and should I start doing it myself? or is that an okay amount of time??

When Sophie was under 6 mths she got a "puppy groom" which took about 45 min.
Now she is 8 mths and she gets the full monty. Takes about 1.5 - 2 hours. And she is a 10 lb Yorkie!
Something is not adding up here! I'd find another groomer.

Most groomers take in several dogs at the same time. Then they are bathed and groomed individually...the amount of time it takes to groom "your" dog varies greatly on how many other dogs are there. Ours take them in order that they were dropped off. If I arrive first...mine are first to be bathed and first groomed..

This is one reason I switched groomers. The one place I was going was good, but, they would have you have them there between 8 and 9 and you wouldn't pick them up until after 4, I thought that was ridiculous. Now, the one I use, has them done in less than 2 hours

Ben's groomer almost always has him done in just under 2 hours. I dont mind waiting because I know that she is going to do a good job and will take her time. But 4 or 5 hours is alittle long. Do you make an appointment or just walk in?

I have a wonderful groomer who also shows and breeds Yorkies. I make my appointment and within 45-60minutes she is done. Can't get any better than that!:D

my groomer takes about 3 hours she takes several dogs at once and the first that gets there get groomed and so on i realy do not care to wait so long but she does a good job and only charges 15

I made an appointment (both times) I've taken her there. I've never seen where they groom or what kind of area/crate they keep the animals in. It's really the only place in our town that has a certified groomer. :thumbdown Although I'm pretty sure a few of the people working there aren't certified and VERY young to be doing this type of job.

I would ask to see that area. Professional good groomers will have no problem showing you where they have your baby and what process they use when grooming them. Also, most will give you a time frame when you can pick them up before you leave. You should not have to have you r baby there for 5 hrs!! My goodness that is just not right.
Next time you go in, tell them you would like to stay and observe. :thumbup:

It takes Deb about an hour and a half for Amelia. Not long at all. We call Grooming day her Spa Day. :) 5 Hours is a bit too long to me

We went to the groomers for the first time on Monday, and when I called to make the appointment they said that I would have to leave my baby there for a five hour minimum, which seemed like an awfully long time to groom a 7.5 pound dog. I also asked them not to shave her (which they did, now I have a yorkie that looks like a chihauha. GREAT) I think we'll be finding anyother groomer. Does anyone know a good groomer in the Springfield, MO area?

Cyndi you are very lucky girlie... and to have a groomer that breeds yorkies and knows how to cut them is awesome..
I groom my own.. for I do not want to leave them all the time for so many hours..they take so many in all at once at like 8 am.. and they need to have better drop off times so dogs do not have to sit in a cage most of the day.. I so hate that...anne

5 hours is a long time. I used to go to the groomer who would also tell me 3 hours or more. I refused to go there. It seems too long. In my opinion, you make an appointment for a reason. It seems the bigger grooming place the more time you wait. :rolleyes: It must be because they take numerous dogs at the same time to groom.
I found a smaller place where my Maxi loves to go. I bring him in and in 45 min to an hour he is done, and I pay half price of what the other place charged me.

i LOVE my groomer and have turned on some YT friends to her as well. :D everything is done out in the open and you can sit and watch and wait if you want :thumbup:

they book their appointments so a dog is NEVER waiting (well unless the owner is late picking them up or something) and miss buffey gets done in about 50-60 minutes. i would never go to a place where i had to leave them hours and hours :eek: :(

I'm very happy to post here because I saw first hand how our "#1" dog groomer in our area handled one of my babies.

First of all, I stayed there for the whole thing and I tell you what, it can be a brutal terrorizing thing for a dog. I can't for the life of me understand how people can leave their babies there when it's really not that hard to trim nails and cut hair. I cut with scissors or clippers with no problems.

The groomer wasn't "tender" when handling my baby.... AND that was when I was standing right there! I don't like how she kept my baby there on the table with a hangman's noose, oops, my bad, a "tether" around baby's neck. I didn't like how there was too much slack either. If baby decided to jump off the table from being scared, there was enough "noose" to allow it to happen.(hang by the neck) When noosed, excuse me, when "tethered", there should only be enough slack to work with and not allow enough for the dog to jump off the table. The groomer left the table several times to tend to other things... kept leaving then coming back.

I asked the guy bathing one of the other dogs why the dog is whining and whimpering? He said, "Probably because the water is cold." :mad:

I didn't like it when the groomer asked me about 4 times that I can leave and come back later. I said "NO! I never take my eyes off my babies."

The blower the dog groomers use are LARGE, very large! It's like being in front of a noisy wind turbine. Imagine your baby being alone and being subjected to all this? If anything, hopefully you have the time to be there and watch and comfort your baby while it's being "groomed".

I took one of my babies once to the groomers and never again. From that experience I was determined to cut their hair myself... and I did.

Now that my rant is over, sorry, I did forget I took baby boy to the groomer's once.(this would be twice to the groomers, once for baby girl and once for baby boy) I also learned from the first experience and realized I don't need to pay anyone to do my baby's nails along with giving him a bath, so I did this before hand and told the groomer just a hair cut is fine. She did it in exactly 27 minutes while I held baby boy on the table.

Not all dog groomers are equal. If you take your baby(ies) to the groomers, maybe stay there for the first time to quicken the job as well as to comfort your baby(ies) and see how well your baby(ies) is/are taking it... along with how they are being treated.
