How to prevent coat from urine? Hi all, I have a 3 month old puppy. After she does her thing, she would then step on it (I am not sure if she's intentional). Therefore I bath her at least twice a day. How do you guys prevent this from happening? Thanks!:D |
I'm not sure how you would prevent it. One of my girls is very fastidious and even holds one leg up a little while she is peeing to prevent getting any on her and she wants the pad changed out after one or two pees but my other one would walk around in it, and the other as well, up to her knees and not mind a bit. Go figure. |
yeah sorry then for asking help for my yorkie here. mine is so dirty and yours so clean.:thumbdown |
:scratchhe Did I miss something here??? |
well you could begin with maybe using baby wipes and clean her feet off.. she is young and once you train her to go outside you might find it better... |
yep...i agree with the baby wipes bit. Works well for Molly. Not usually needed after a wee, but sometime affter a poo, theres a little bit of something left behind!! |

Have a try with the wipes. It will save you having to bath so often. Twice a day is too much and you could end up with a pup with dry skin problems. Once every 2 weeks is plenty for bathing, with a quick face and bum wash in between. Good luck. |
hi i saw on a website where they sell supplies for senior dogs and they have little rubber booties. You may want to try that if not the wipes are the bestthing |
This will happen while she is a pup. It will get better as she gets older. I would not bath her twice a day!! Only because it will dry out her skin and coat. I used to just use baby wipes (non-perfume) on their little footies and private areas when they were pups. I still use baby wipes as needed, but mostly the adults do better about lifting legs or avoiding steping in it. :) |
Hi all, First, I apologize for overreacting to some member's comment. I was very frustrated and I was looking for some suggestions, I was not looking for someone telling me how clean their dogs are. Trust me, I am 100% behind my puppies' hygiene. I don't actually bath them twice. I use feet shampoo to wash off pees and poo from their feet and private area. After that, I put conditioner on her. I have tried Pecto body wipes. What brand do you guys recommend? The Petco brand one is very dry and you can kind of smell the chemicals on her coat. Thank you all! |
By the way, I tried socks on her but it ends up she chews her own socks....:animal36 |
I actually have my dog using an indoor potty called a Wiz Dog that I got online when she is in the house in case she has an accident. Otherwise, she does go potty outdoors and this has helped cut back on the stepping in pee issue. She pees on the potty while I'm at work and it has like a plastic grate over the newspaper so she doesn't get her feet soaked with pee. She's really good about it. I stopped using it for awhile just to see if she stopped walking around in her pee, and she continued to do that so we are using the potty again. It keeps her smelling a lot nicer for longer. I only have to bathe her once a week. I have a very dirty dog. Right after I bathe her and she's all clean and pretty, she goes outside and rolls around in dirt and grass. She is not a prissy dog at all, but I love her to pieces!:animal36 |

Since they have already learned to do their things in a certain place (of course, there're still misses), it would be a great idea to switch to something like wizdog. I had debated whether to buy this product. I even thought about those indoor landscape. Hopefully this will work....:animal-pa |
Are you using the potty pads and they are not absorbing fast enough and she steps in it? I have read today that those funny Sham WOW pads work terrific as potty pads. They absorb really quick and absorb so well that it does not soak through. They are affordable and washable too, so less for the landfill. Check it out! I'm sure Wiz Dog works great too, but maybe try this first it's way cheaper! Just a few bucks. |
