desperate for answers! hi! i brought home my little morkie yesterday and she is such a sweetheart! i am a little worried though because her hair is SO thin and SO short.... she is 12 weeks and there isnt even enough for me to put up in a bow:[ i asked the breeder and she said her sister was the same was and she hopes that the hair will get longer and thicker......is there anything i could do or i should expect? she has the most precious face but honestly right now she kind of looks somewhat like a rat...... please help!!! |
I dont know about morkies but a thin coat on a yorkie is desired because it means it will be a silk coat |
but shes 12 weeks and every yorkie/maltese/morkie that i've seen at this age has a fluffy coat.... |
Got a picture you can share? |
According to my breeder, Pixie had a very sparse coat until she was about a year. I got her at 13 months and she has a beautiful silk coat,it is a little thin but looks great and is easy to care for. My other 2 had heavy coats as puppies and have cottony coats. Would love to see pics. |
1 Attachment(s) bless her heart, i hope so! shes very petite, her ears just came up and they practically take over her head.. i just want her to grow some hair. |
She's too cute! Did you see both her parents? The reason why I ask is I've seen several Morkies and have also seen pics of Morkies at that age and haven't seen one that looks like your girl, although mixes can vary in the looks department. She looks more like the pics I've seen of Chorkies (Chihuahua - Yorkie)...please don't take offense but I can understand your concern. She may just end up being silky like others have stated. Congratulations either way...she is a doll!! :p |
oh none taken, other people have said the same thing. that's why i'm confused because i did see both her parents and her siblings.. |
I agree with velobabe. She looks more Chihuahua/Yorkie than Maltese/Yorkie. Both Yorkies and Maltese have quite a bit of coat at twelve weeks. It's impossible to tell with mixed breeds how they will look as adults, though. Maybe she's got red legged Yorkie in her genes? You might want to read this thread. She looks a lot like Ksena: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-chuahuas.html |
I see chi in her too |
3 Attachment(s) On the other hand, check out the pictures of my Zoey. She's a 15 month old, 4-1/2 lb, Yorkie-Chihuahua mix. It's really hard to see any Chi in her at all. Genetics are wondrous and confusing and sometimes unpredictable. |

Well, what can I say...she's perfect. Not even any potty problems. Anyway, she was sold as a Chorkie. You think she's not? What does she look like to you? |

1 Attachment(s) This is Max (my Morkie) at 13 weeks when we picked him up at the breeders. Your baby sure is a cutie! Max is now 15 months. I love my Morkie! |

Doesn't matter...we luv them all anyway! No matter "what" they are :animal36 |
Wow...Max and Zoey look a lot alike, don't they?...especially their expressions. What a handsome little guy! How much does your Max weigh? Forgot to say...Zoey was born 2/12/08. |
Max weighs 7 lbs...but the vet said at his check up this week that he needs to lose 1 lb and get back to 6 pds. He is 15 months old now. He weighed about 2.5 to 3 lbs when he was 13 weeks. I don't think he is over weight by that much. I can feel his ribs. |

Max's tail is up & over his back and his ears are down (like Maltese) but his markings are Yorkie. Their faces are very similar (nose and eye placement). What a beautiful girl Zoey is!!!! |
Chrissy... Zoey weighs 4-1/2 lbs, but is still a chub, even though I've cut way back on her food and treats. I can (barely) feel her ribs too, but they're under a goodly layer of plumpness, heh. Her ears are up, as you can see in her pics. Her tail is up and over her back...except when she's concerned about something (like clippers :D). Then the little white tip of it actually touches the ground. Her markings are similar to a Yorkie's, but she's got a LOT of white. Mostly white face, tan ears, a little tan on the muzzle, mostly grey body, pale tan and white legs, grey and tan tail with a white tip...white tipped feet (YAY!!!). I love her long tail. It's so expressive...like a little plumed flag. :) I begin to think tail docking maybe isn't such a great thing after all, you know? Zoey and Max would make quite the adorable couple, huh??? :D |
Zoey is just BEAUTIFUL! I love her! |

Max's little tangles can be a pain sometimes. I would love it if his coat was a bit thinnner!~ |
