Are pin brushes better than bristle or combs? I've always done my own grooming and never used anything but bristle brushes and combs on my Yorkies. Since coming here, I've noticed a lot of glowing talk about the Madan pin brushes. What is the value of pin brushes over the other types? Do they get snarls or mats out without pulling...or what? I'm always looking for a better way. My new little Chorkie, Zoey, has a combination coat...cottony on her head (and wee pooch pits, lol) and coarser on her body. It's the cottony stuff that really wants to mat... |
My Biewers have thick silk coats and the pin brushes are perfect for them. I lift the hair up from the bottom and brush in layers all the way through to the top...then I use a comb that has different lengths of teeth to be sure there are no snarls anywhere and it works great. My groomer recommended the varied length comb...she said to never use a comb with even teeth. Silly me didn't ask why...I just said 'O.k.' :rolleyes: |

Need them all I think the pin brushes are definately better at getting out the tangles. Nothing like a good boar bristle brush to bring up the shine, though. And you have to have a comb, regular and a flea comb for the face. So, I think it is good to have them all. I brush most of the time with the pin brush. But when I want to really show them off, I finish with a boar bristle brush. |
A show friend recently recommended the christ christenson wooden bristle brush....I got it a week ago and do I wish these were available sooner. It is a dream...mats simply brush out...no pulling. I am not kidding. Best money I've spent. Pin Brushes |
Hi there, I sell the Madan's. They are very good quality pin brushes. Mimi has very fine silky hair & this brush does a beautiful job. No static, no hair pulling or breaking & best of all, doesn't hurt her sensitive skin. Momo has very thick cottony coat...he looks chubby cuz of all that fur.:D This brush is fantastic for his coat type. I too brush him like my2boyz does, holding up his hair & brushing down in layers. It takes out the tangles w/out hurting him & this is very important, cuz if it pulls...he attacks the brush! After I'm done brushing him, he's smooth & tangle free. I probably sound like an advertisement...but it's the truth. I don't even use combs anymore. |

This combs are used on basically every dog i groom after brushing to make sure all the knots are out. None of my instructs even suggested to use nor have i seen them use a comb with different teeth lengths. i would really like to know why your groomer suggests those combs over others. wonder if she's got a trick up her sleeves |

Thanks so much for the great info and advice. It's funny, I just found a tiny pin brush in the bag of supplies that came with Zoey. It must be for a human toddler. It's about 4" long with a sparkly plastic body and plastic pins with little knobs on their ends, lol. The pins are fairly far apart and I notice that when I go over her coat with a comb, after the brushing, there are still a goodly amount of tangles. After that glowing recommendation, I sure wish I could afford that wooden pin CC brush... Maybe when I hit the lottery, huh? ;) |
FYI...the pins w/little knobs at the end are not good for yorkies. It breaks their hair. The Madan has straight beveled edge pins. *kalina82* I only use greyhound combs too. I thought the combs w/the different teeth lenghths were shedding combs...:confused: How is the CC comb? Thinking of getting one.:D |
Brushes and Combs Lots of good info about brushes and combs. I should get a better brush for the guys but with two different coats to brush, Zack is thick soft and Zeke is thinner and a little coarser. "Good or Bad", I am using a comb called "Detangler". It is a straight tooth comb, metal teeth and they rotate. It seems to work good, less pulling on their beards when I comb them to get food out of their beards. I got the comb at Pet Supermarket if anyone wants to take a look. |
