Nails Cut Too Short/Petti Paws I really like my groomer, but last week when I took Sadie in, two of her nails were cut too short, and were red so I know they were bleeding. When I told the groomer, she quickly took her back and put some type of treatment on her paws to make sure they did not bleed anymore. It really upset me, and I told her that that had to hurt like crazy. She said it does not hurt them. I said, bet me. If you cut the quick on my nails, you would know about it. I will not take her back there for nail cutting. Maybe grooming, but that is it. I would like to know if anyone here has used Petti Paws? I see it on TV all of the time and the last time I was in Bed & Bath I noticed two women had them and when I asked how they worked, they said they had never used it but wanted to try it out. Has anyone used Petti Paws? Thanks. |

Sorry this happened to your baby, it's actually easy to do(clip their nails too short), but, yes, it does hurt when you cut in to the quick, and no one can tell me any different. I have a pedi paws. None of my dogs like it, and they sure don't sit and put their paws out for us to trim their nails. I put my 4 year old biewer on the washer and tried using it on him and you have to watch as their paw hair can get caught. I think it would take forever to get all of my dogs nails done with tit. I't probably one of the worse things I've ever spent $20 on |

Oops, I spelled Pedi Paws wrong. Thanks for your info. All of Sadie's nails but two are black. I guess I will have to think about cutting her nails with a nail cutter than. I really hate this job, but if I take it slow and careful, I think I can do it. Many thanks. |

My groomer does not like them, she says they over heat too much |

Yes, it hurts them...for pekes sake, it bleeds (directed at the groomer)!! I'm a groomer (for only 2 short months now) & I'll admit, I've had my share of cutting the quick...& I feel SO bad when it happens, cuz some (not all) dogs yelp! Just a little fact: sometimes the quick is too long (in your case I'm thinking it was not) & it needs to be cut to retract. About the pedi-paws...it's super quiet. I only use it to file the tip of the nails smooth. To file down a long nail w/it is not recommended cuz yes, it'll get too hot. I take out the bothersome cover thing. Just a lttle tip if you're going to cut your Yorkie's nails (or any black nail): Cut the nail tip little by little until you see a black dot in the middle.:D |

I use the pedi paws inbetween grooms. I love it it just files their nails down. You can still get into the quick though if you arent careful about how short you are going |

Sorry this happened to you. I have always been scared to death about cutting the quick in my dogs. I have never used the pedipaws but i have the peticure and i love it. I always take a little off with nail clippers, then file them with the pedicure and it works great. It is rechargeable so no batteries to buy. |

Is Peticure a product made just for trimming dogs' nails, and where do I buy one? I have never heard of it. Thanks. |

Similar product I have the Oster nail grinder kit that I bought at PetSmart, and I love it. It's basically the same thing but it doesn't have the cap and it doesn't run off of batteries, plus you just put Dremel grinder bands on (they're like $2.99 for 6 and you can get different grits depending on your needs). It IS a bit more pricey than the Pedi Paw but I like it better. Oster Nail Grinder Kit - Grooming - Dog - PetSmart My dogs aren't huge fans but I have hit their quick since they all have black nails when I use clippers on them, and it makes me feel better using this as I can just basically file the nails a little at a time. They tolerate it now, and they seem to like it more than those clippers. Another nice feature is that you can adjust the speed it runs at so if you have a big dog like a Golden Retriever who just lays there and lets you work you can go faster. And on the fact that it gets hot, yes it can but you only spend a few seconds on any particular nail then move on, you can always go back to a nail later. It's like getting acrylics applied at a nail salon to us humans if they're on the nail too long with the drill it gets hot in spots. So I do like the instructions say and do a little bit then move on and come back if I feel it's too long. The quick doesn't need to be cut to make it shorter btw, you just trim the nail back in stages and it will retreat back. It takes awhile but if you trim the nails every few weeks the quick recedes back, and it talks about this in the instructions of the Oster. And why would you CHOOSE to deliberately hurt an animal when you can just take some more time with it? Sure they aren't pretty immediately but why cause unnecessary pain to your pet? Good luck! |

I wonder how the one nail clippers work that you see that have a red, yellow and green light on it that lights up while cutting. It supposedly shows you with the red light that you're going to cut in to the quick.? |

Thank you for this information. I will read up on the Oster Nail Grinder. I would just feel better if I could cut my little girls nails, and just take her to the groomer to get her hair cut, ears cleaned, etc. Quote:
