First Bath I brought Rudy home a week ago and I was wondering when I can give him his first bath? I have been brushing him daily trying to get him used to that. Any tips or pointers on how to make it successful? My sister tells me she really tries to protect her Yorkies' ears during her bath. I was just wondering if there was anything else I should be mindful of. |
Yo can start bathing him anytime. I start bathing puppies at 2 weeks. |
haha we really are in the same boat! i posted a "first bath" question this morning in the grooming section :) i think we are going to attempt it tomorrow...now i'm trying to figure if i should blow dry or air dry... take pictures! we'll have to share! |
You can bathe him right now, if you want to...I bathe Apple in the kitchen sink...I put warm water in the sink, and test it w/my elbow (lol)..just like you would do w/a baby...I fill the sink just to cover her legs and tummy...Then I can gently get her little body all wet and suds her up (gotta be comfortable holding on to them!)...I have several glasses of warm water to wet and rinse her little head and face, and use the sprayer on her body...After I let the sudsy water out, I spray her w/the sprayer and rinse her face w/the water in the glasses, I have on the side, and have a towel on the counter to cover her up and give her a first dry...Then there's the warm towel in the dryer for the 2nd dry (LOL)...Then I blow dry her hair and tell her how gorgeous she is and give her 3 blueberries!!! Hope this helps w/your first bath...I was freakin' out the first time; that's why I went into such detail, just in case you were too... Happy Bath, Maggie & Apple :aimeeyork xoxoxo |
Hello, I didn't even think to look in the grooming section for information; could be lack of sleep from getting up in the middle of the night! :) I think I will either attempt today but more likely tomorrow since we are expected to get rain today. I will definately let you know how it went. |
When I brought Tia home I let her settle for a week before her first bath although I took her upstairs to sit on the bed so she could get used to the noise of the hairdryer when I done my hair. She now loves been blown dry, she rolls around like a mad woman lol. Good luck with it. |
I love the warm towel from the dryer idea!!:thumbs up |
I always warm a towel in the dryer so its nice a cozy. They get so chilled after a bath... |
So here is the report, he did well but was pretty scared. He shook the whole time and tried to get out of the sink. I didn't have a choice thought because I tilled my garden in the morning and that pretty black dirt was just too enticing for him, he was a mess. All and all it went well and he sure is a handsome boy now, clean and brushed! |
Good Job :DSo glad to hear you and Sir Rudy made it through the first bath...I can, totally, empathize w/u, as I'm not sure who was shaking more, w/the first bath....Apple or Me...lol...Bathing is still not my favorite thing to do, but I don't shake, anymore, and Apple doesn't shake, either, as long as I use the warm towel...How did Sir Rudy do w/the blow-dryer? I was pretty amazed that Apple seemed to like the dryer??? Maggie & Apple:aimeeyork xoxox |
Tobie loves baths (he takes after his mom. LOL.) but hates the blow dryer. I don't think it's the sound because he'll be in the room when I blow dry my hair . Any tips on how to get him used to it? |
