Ears needed to be shaved to stand up? Are there some Yorkies that need their ear permanently shaved to keep standing? I'm asking because I shaved mine at 14 weeks old, taped it overnight and it stood straight up the next morning. Now 4 weeks later (at 18 weeks old), the hair is growing back and I can see the ears starting to fold over a bit. So does it look like I will need to continue shaving his ears just so that they will stand? |
Yes, you need to keep shaving the ears until they stand completely on their own. Also, he is teething right now and their ears will go up and down during teething so you may need to tape again for extra support. My boys are 19 weeks and they are still up in tape. |
Don't have any advice because Chloe's ears were standing at 8 weeks! I guess I am lucky! Just be consistent and I'm sure they will stay up soon! |
Marley is 3 months old and his ears don't stand up. They were shaved when I got him from the breeder and I've tried to do it but he is terrified of the sound of the clippers! He wiggles and wiggles and tries to bite me when I get them out. |
Thanks for the input :) I've decided to only shave the inside of his ears and trim the edges and hope they will stay standing on their own. If not, I'll just accept his droopy ears  Does anyone have an adult that needs their ears to be constantly shaved to keep standing? -Just wondering- |
Save front and back 1/3 down. You can keep this type of cute all the time. It's a show cut. |

So they still stood even when the hair grew back? If that is the case, I might shave him again but I don't really want to shave his ears all the time. I would rather have him with hairy floppy ears then bald upright ears. :D |

Yeah, you don't need to shave the whole ear, unless you are planning on taping the ear for a few days, and shaving helps in tape removal. Only the top third of the ear is shaved with a regular yorkie haircut. I don't use one of the noisy clippers, I use one of those thin bikini trimmers, you can find them at Target, and they hardly make a sound. Now older, Joey can handle the noise of the bigger trimmers, but I find this easier to work with. http://alibisecret.com/attachments/I...%20twirler.jpg |
