The BEST Quiet Clippers? Your Favorites?
 
I am looking into clipping Max myself.
What clippers do you like best? Are they quiet?
What size comb do you use? Comb or blade?

There is a Geib Zero Heat Clipper and quiet clipper. Pet Edge is the only place where it can be purchased $164.99. Comes with a # 10 blade, which most clippers come with. Don't know what kind of cut you plan to keep your puppy in, but you'll have to purchase additional blades, #7F, 5F, 4F, if you plan to do any puppy cuts. You'll also have to purchase a Whal Peanut for trimming ears and keeping foot pads clean of hair.

My 2nd choice would be an Oster Turbo A5 Single Speed Clipper. Super Quiet and Cooler, a work horse.

I have the Oster Powermax, it is quiet and little less expensive than the Geib. Also, for most one or two owner yorkies, if that is all you're grooming it works just fine. Mine came with a #10 and #40 blade, then I bought the 6 pak of different combs from Petedge.

I'm curious, is there a reason you would prefer the Oster A5 single speed over their 2 speed. I never use the 2nd speed with my Powermax and have wondered why Oster offers both in the A5?

I have an Oster A5, and just had to have it repaired. The person that repaired it said that when the time comes to buy a new pair, to get Andis because they have less moving parts and that means they are quieter, and easier/cheaper to fix if there is a problem. I think he also said they are lighter, which is a plus also.

I use a #10, #5F, and #3F. (I usually only use the #10 on the Yorkies, the others I use for my Poodles).

Just don't need a 2 speed when grooming yorkies.

I've had an Andis and they get hotter quicker and are noiser. Oster's last longer, I know that my mentor has had her 2 for about 30 years. I switched to the Oster and as a groomer I much prefer it over the Andis.

Thanks for that info! I think I am going to have to replace my clippers, they are still not working right after they have been repaired.

Mardelin -- I am here to pick your brain again. I have been looking at cordless clippers and searched the forum for post on the topic. The Geib has what looks to be a good deal on Petedge -- a cordless pair that sells for $125 and gives 5,500 spm and comes with two battery packs. I seem to be less than coordinated when trying my own grooming and thought if I could do away with the cord attaching me to the wall, it might give a little more freedom to move about. I was confused by the 1 3/4" blade when most say they come with a #10. I don't know the comparison. Do you know or have you heard any reviews on cordless clippers? Thanks in advance.

BTW I love my Peanut for trimming (you recommended them to me a couple of years ago) and was not sure I even needed to go with a set of clippers. But the cordless idea has me very interested.

Since I groom, I really don't like the cordless, but that's my preferance. Not sure what to tell you about the 1 3/4 blade. The only time I use a cordless is at the show grounds when I need to do touch ups on the ears or foot pads, then I use a small Whal cordless. Most clippers come with the #10. But, I rarely use it. Unless I'm doing a real super cut down or use it with a comb attachment. I usually work with a 7F, 5F, 4F and 3F.

I've used my Peanut with the comb attachments on puppies, but as they get older the larger clippers work faster and better. And since I groom, using the Peanuts for actual clipping really puts a wear on them and they need to be replaced to often.

I have the Andis 2 speed and I just love it. The first one I had what Oster and it seemed to get hot really fast, and the thing was always dull.
