Best shampoo and conditioner for frequent bathing. I had a question on which shampoo and conditioner to use for twice weekly bathing. I have been leaning toward Day to Day from the Chris Christensen website, but am wondering if anyone has any other ideas. I am wanting to bathe twice a week due to the fact that my DH has an allergy to dogs(which he is keeping on top of with meds) and I'd just like to keep Chico clean. His bedding is washed weekly and I vaccum twice a week. I am a huge animal lover and my DH agreed that we could get a puppy for the girls and I (although now that we have Chico DH treats him like a baby, so sweet), so for him I would just like to make our home and Chico as clean and dander free as possible. Thanks for any advice. |

First off, can you PLEEEEZE tell me what a DH is??????? I see people use this term all the time but I have never heard of this. I must admit that I am non on these type of sites much so I assume this is a new abbreviation for husband?? SECOND... Youkies are one of the few breeds that DO NOT cause allergy probs. so the DH might want to try going a few days to see if this do really causes him problems. Yorkies have HAIR not fur like other dogs and washing them twice a week will dry out their skin and cause the dog problems... So please be careful. Most people are allergic to dog dander, Yorkies don't have dander. you can look on the web for Hypo-allergic dogs and you will see Yorkies listed.. Good Luck.. So what is a DH?? Thanks. Sharon |

Buddy Wash & Buddy Rinse - it doesn't contain actual soap so it does not dry like soap. It definitely gets them clean though - It gets out all those nasty doggie smells. :D The lavender smell lasts for days! |
lavendar! oh yum! I was also wondering the same thing. My oscy stinks (Due to the fact that he urinates on his front right leg 90% of the time he has to go) Oscar also has VERY dry skin so i have to be careful about bathing him.. he has sensitive skin and gets flakey so i try not to bathe him too often... but between the stench and sensitive skin... this sounds like a fabulous solution! |
I use #1 All Systems shampoo and conditioner. It's highly concentrated, and I always add more water than it says. I also give them hot oil treatments once a week, in the cold months when skin and hair drie out, right before their bath and once a month in the rest of the months. I also give them Omega 3,6, 9. Their skin and coat are in great shape. (of course home cooking plays a major roll in their health). |

He held off getting the medication for the first couple of weeks, but he was having a reaction (it causes asthma) and had to go get it. Paul's reaction to Chico is not as bad as when he is around his parents' dogs (Jack Russell and German Shepard). I will for sure keep an eye on Chico's skin and coat to make sure he's doing ok. DH is computer chat talk for dear husband. I had to ask my sister when I started comming on this site along with a few others that I didn't know. Thank you all for your feedback. :thumbs up |

memeof4 Ihave a simular question. My Izzy has very sensitive skin I have tried all kins of shampoos and she still scratches till she is red. Also she has I call fly away hair from the middle of her all the way to her tail it looks fluffy and frizzy any sugestions? Maybe I using the wrong kind of brush? |
HI, Your Baby might have an allergy so I would check with your vet. You might need to use a special shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner will help with the fly away hair, you can always use a mixture like 1 to 4 of the conditioner/water to use when your brushing. Hope this helps.... Good luck, Sharon |

These were some of the articles I found after the Dr my husband sees for his allergies told us there were no breeds of dogs that were hypo-allergenic, cause I wasn't buying what he was selling( I believed that the hypo-allergenic group were truly hypo-allergenic) and needed to see it for myself. With Chico my husband's reactions are way way less severe than with dogs that shed. His reactions with Chico are the usual allergy reactions and only slight breathing problems unmedicated, with other dogs he has severe breathing problems and his eyes almost swell shut. We will never give Chico up and have made a commitment to him for his entire life and will adjust our lives to suit him, but I wonder how many people get dogs thinking they are hypo-allergenic and get rid of them when they or their children have a reaction. I recommend an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner or hypo-allergenic shampoo. Bio-Groom has a great smelling Oatmeal Shampoo (soap free) and they have Silk or Oatmeal Creme Rinse (conditioner). You can e-mail the company from their website and request free samples. They also carry a hypo-allergenic shampoo that is soapless and very mild. Some of my clients liked me to use it because they were allergic to the other shampoos (especially scented ones). Their dogs weren't allergic, but the owners were. The same way "hyper" means over/more (like hyperactive) "hypo" means less, or low; as in hypo-glycemia being low blood sugar, not absence of blood sugar. So it would make sense to me that a severely allergic person may still get some symptoms from a yorkie, but not nearly as bad, and most ppl notice no symptoms at all. I am glad that I only have pollen allergies, lol, of course that won't stop me from gardening :) |

I just order the calm coat oatmeal shampoo. I hope it works for charlie. He has really dry and itchy skin. I only bath him once every 2 wks and he gets the wipes in between. I use the petco wipes. |

I just took for granted( and didn't think) that when I was told "these dogs are hypoallergenic so people that have allergies won't have a reaction to them", it meant just that. Paul had also interacted with our friend's poodle and had no reaction. We would have gone the Poodle route, but we fell in love with the Yorkies tenacious personality, they are gorgeous, and thought since Paul had no reaction to our friend's poodle we would be safe as long as we stuck with the hypoallergenic listed dogs. I have pollen allergies too, Paul is just allergic to animals. If I had to pick though I would pick pollen, cause I can't live without animals. |
