Are blades and combs equal in length? Is a #7 blade equal to a #7 comb? I am totally confused regarding blades and combs. Will I get the same length by using either? Help! Please. |
Well, I searched around because I was pretty sure it wasn't the same. a #7 comb is 1/16 inch. a #7F (you want this, because a regular number 7 is a skip tooth) is 1/8 inch. Hope that helps! |
Oh, and if you want to save money I say buy a #10 and a #40 and some snap on combs. Snap on combs are much cheaper than actual blades. |
Thank you. I already have an Andis with all the combs but not sure how to use them. The more I read the more confused I get. I have been grooming Buddy and have shaved him down. Got that downpat. However, his coat has been growing all winter and am thinking of keeping it longer, how do I use the combs for longer lengths? Like a puppycut for example. |
You will need a #30 or #40 blade to use under snap on combs. Snap on combs go by finished length, 1/4", 1/2", etc. Here is a chart from Oster that shows the blade # and finished length: http://www.householdappl.com/downloa...ence_chart.pdf |
Ladymom, thank you for that information. It's starting to make more sence to me. |
Lady mom that's awesome you found that. I was trying to find something similar. Now I know where to go. ARCHIE - you should post pictures of your finished groom! I'm going to groom mine, hopefully this weekend. :D |

Which one is best? Maybe a silly question but... Why do I need a #30 or #40 to use under the combs? |

You need a blade with a closer, surgical cut under the combs to get a good cut. |
how to use trimmer? I have bought a trimmer, but I don't know how to use ithttp://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif. #1 the pups don't like it and It doesn't seem to cut well? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Also, I read that a little mineral oil be put in each eye before shampooing, is this alright? I have 3 pups, 2 yorkies and 1 bichon, and the grooming bill is killing me, at $50 a throw. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/images/icons/omg.gif Help please,,, Jasmin My yorkies are Squeaky and Swiper, the Bichon is Ollie. (Ollie owns my husband) |
I also use a #30 or #40 to shave the v-pad on the feet. I use the #40 under my snap on combs. The #10 or #15 is for the ear tips and potty area and if you like to shave between the eyes/bridge of nose. Some people also use the #40 for ear tips, but I like them a little longer on Harley (I use a 10 or 15 on him). A #7F blade is about the length used on Schnauzer's backs if they gives you an idea of how short it is. |
Lisa What type of Clipper do you use? Model and type? What brand of combs? Thanks |

That's what I do to Buddy but I use the Andis blade on the highest setting. I have no idea what blade it is it came with the clipper. It took trial and error but I got that downpat. His coat is growing in and I needed to know how to use the combs. Now I want to ask another question. I am looking to purchase a really good scissor. Any suggestions? |
