1 Year old Yorkie who refuses to be groomed!!! My Holly Boo is a long haired Yorkshire terrier. She was cut 6 months ago as her knots got so bad! Any how, she was cut really short and i hated it!! But now her hair is growing nicely, ive been brushing her lots and have alrealy taken out alot of knots. She just refuses to lay nicely and i hate myself when i reach for the brush and comb as i dont want to upset her. Any ideas guys, as i really dont want my baby to be cut short again. Thankyou :aimeeyork |
Take things slow. I don't know what you're using to brush but my baby freaked out when I used a slicker brush. I tried it on my own skin and it hurt! We just use a metal comb now. Do a little bit at a time and do it everyday. I think if your dog has knots it makes the brushing less enjoyable because it can hurt them when trying to brush the knots out. Use treats and praise. Put him/her on your lap and brush. It takes time, but with baby steps, they might not learn to love it, but will tolerate it. Good luck! |
I agree, take it slow. You may want to get a detangler also. It really helps with knots. Do a little bit every day and more each day. Also, have one spot that you groom them, this way she will get used it and when she is on this spot she knows what type of behaviour you expect of her (standing still or sitting) since this is where she will be groomed. Maggie has never been professionally groomed but sits very well for me, she was a terror at first. Hot Rod was professional groomed several times so he was used to it. Good luck. |
