She had to be clipped all the way :( I was ill recently and in Critical unit a couple of times right during the Holidays. I was unable to keep up with Suzi's grooming and she had matts underneath her top layer... She had gone to the Groomer once before a few months before that. So when I took her in today at 11 months old, ther were too many matts to work through, I felt guilty and bad for Suzi , it was the only time sense the surgries I could make it back with her to fix her hair again. When i came to pick Suzi up I did not even recognize her:eek: only when she saw me and was so happy then I realized it was her. She is all gray now, and all the puppy coat is gone, no more black hair... She also is sooo tiny now. How long does it take for Yorkies to grow back there hair? I am thinking that her hair will be the silver color now too? I trust the groomer I go to and he actully thought i was going to be mad. However, I thought that this may have to happen as well, however i was not prepared for the dramatic change. At least now we can start over with her hair and keep it well cared for and I am sure Suzi feels much better! I feel badly that it had gotten to that point of no return. :( |
I am sorry you have been through so much. As much as we love their hair - she let you know that it didn't matter to her :) -- you're what is important to her. I'm not sure how long it will take - I adopted mine & they had short hair - I immediately let it start growing - seems like it took a long time, but they were adults. But then on the other side it probably didn't take that long - I was just anxious for it to grow  Short hair means Suzi can look cute wearing all those adorable sweaters and T's |
No way to say exact, different speed for different coats. My female would take a long time to fully grow back as her hair is so slow growing. My guess would be 6 months for her. I actually had her cut very short last summer and it was fairly long just before Christmas. But my little male would probably be grown out in a couple of months. His hair is the fastest growing I have ever seen. I have to watch out or he is walking on his long flowing coat within a month of being at the groomers. I keep my Sadie pretty short as her coat is a little unruly, but Ben is floor length. Don't feel guilty about keeping up their grooming when your health was at stake. As long as they get their lovin', you can always catch up on the stylin' :) Sorry you were so ill during the holidays, hope you are doing much better now. These little sweethearts can help with healing. Mine always seem to know when I don't feel well and are extra loving and attentive. |
Thank you for the replies... She was "shaved down" I think she feels a lot better now, but she is still the sweet little girl as always! It was odd that I did not recognize Suzi! At lezast now i can start over and keep her hair Matt free from now on! I can't get over the fact how tiny she really is without all that hair! ;) |
Sorry you were ill and hope you feel better now. She will feel better and it will grow back. |
Suzi seems to be taking it well with her new haircut .I could not believe the dramatic difference in looks! i think that when her hair grows back it will be her adult colors. She is very silver gray underneath. Suzi is nearly a year old .I wish the groomer kept a bit of hair around her face though:( I feel guilty for not maintaining her grooming, but could not for health reasons... Hoping this will never have to happen again! |
I'm sorry you had so many problems. I always have Piper, and Suiki's hair shaved down. It's easier to take care of, and they look so neat and clean. |
