Groomer Scare I’ve been hearing more and more about PetSmart these days and I wanted to share my own scary story about an experience there. I used to take Macy there to get trims, and one day I came back early while she was still on the table. I witnessed the groomer grab the hair under Macy’s chin and shake her head because I guess she was frustrated that Macy was fussing. I immediately notified the manager of what I saw and needless to say I didn’t pay that day and was given a $50 gift card to use in the store. Now I never take my girls anywhere that won’t let me stay and watch. Be careful who you leave your furbabies with! |
omg how scary!i probably would hit the guy! |
A few years ago, I took my two yorkies to Petsmart for grooming and I was horrified when this moron was on the phone and clipping the hair around my baby's ears with VERY LARGE scissors. She did a terrible job on both of them and I never went back. After 8 years of grooming them myself, I'm actually developing some very rudimentary skills! |
I'm starting to try and groom them myself. Any tips? |
I comb them out first, then I use clippers with longer sized attachments just to trim them up. They stay in "puppy cuts" most of the time. If you click on my profile, you'll see their album and my limited grooming skills. Nevertheless, they look cute :) I trim their ears very carefully with the clippers and pull the hair out of the ear canal with my fingers. I also take just the tips of their nails and then file the rough spots with a rigid nail file. I trim the hair around their faces usually with small scissors but my dogs will sit VERY STILL for this. You have to be careful of their eyes. That's pretty much it - they get their baths - shampoo and conditioner and then I clean their ears with a product called Biogroom and q tips and then i dry them. You' will prob get more professional advice on this forum than i can provide!! Good luck, you can do it!! |
I have owned a grooming salon for 8 years now and have groomed dog (most of them yorkies) for the past 10 years. I have heard stories like this all the time from clients. All thought it is not uncommon to hold the hair on the chin for control while you scissor you would never shake them. You wait until the dog calm's down, then you go back to scissoring. If that don't work then ask the owner to leave for a few minutes until you finish. If that doesn't help then just do the best you can!! But above all you never hurt or stress the dog. I personal would never never ever take any of my yorkies or any dog to PETCO OR PETSMART!!! Find a small grooming salon you will get better care and service there!!:):):) As far as grooming the yorkies at home it is easy and if you want to PM me I can give you many many tips. Yorkies are my thing. I think I do more yorkies then any other breed. But I will help out as much as I can.... Sorry You had such bad luck at those places...:(:(:(:( |
Whew! I had a Petsmart grooming appt for next Saturday...but I made an appt at a local individual grooming place for next Thursday instead. I have never seen any dogs being mistreated at our Petsmart; I have only had Olivia groomed there twice (with no problems) but I have been in there quite a bit and always watch through the window for a while. But it's not worth the risk, so I hope I like the lady I'm going to next week... |
Be very detailed in the way you want your dog groomed. It will help her alot. I love it when my clients know what they want then I help them make it looks good...:):):) |

Every time I go by Petsmart I take a look at the groomers section and a few times I have run into groomers abusing the animals. I let the meanagers know and I also told 2 owners before. So very sad, I don't think Suri will be going there unless they let me watch! |

That would help me a lot sounds like you know what you want and that's great. The only thing I would ask you is do you want me to scissor trim or clipper trim? I try to push my clients to get a scissor trim it looks better and is not a damaging on the coat. But if the owner wants something short then I will use the clippers. But if I was closer to you I would love to groom your baby!!!:):):) |
